The time of year a woman conceives may influence her child's future academic performance, according to new American research.
When researchers linked standardised test scores of 1, 667,391 Indiana students in grades 3 to 10 with the month in which each student was conceived, they found that those conceived between May and August scored considerably lower on maths and language tests than children conceived during other months of the year.
Lead researcher, Dr Paul Winchester of Indiana University School of Medicine said the evidence pointed to environmental pesticide, used most often in the American summer months, as a possible factor.
The lower test scores correlated with higher levels of pesticides and nitrates in the surface water(nearby streams) and other bodies of water during the same time period.
I would say that many parents have strongly suspected environmental affects on their children in a number of ways. This spells it out!
