I just finished watching Cold Mountain. Renee Zellweger won an Oscar for her performance. I have seen a lot of Renee Zellweger movies and for the life of me I can’t understand what the academy was thinking when they bestowed the Oscar on this performance. The only thing I can think of is she was cheated out of the real Oscar winning performance….that one went to Catherine Zeta-Jones in Chicago. Zellweger was not a supporting actress in Chicago. She WAS the star in Chicago. Zeta-Jones was the supporting actress in that one. I think Zeta-Jones won her Oscar as a way of honoring the Douglass family. I have seen performances that Zeta-Jones deserved an Oscar for…..Zorro was one of them. She wasn’t even nominated and that was pre-Michael Douglass.

Rene Zellweger should have won an Oscar for best actress in a leading role for Chicago. Nicole Kidman deserved it for Cold Mountain if Cold Mountain deserved anything. The movie was a hodge podge of scenes. The graphic depiction of exploding gun powder and bodies flying was very realistic but I can do without that kind of realism. I sort of zigged zagged my way through the movie and at the end felt quite disturbed. Although there was no other ending. The guy deserted his division and went home. How else do you resolve it?

Honor Renee Zellweger for her acting. She’s a good actress. But for the role of Ruby in Cold Mountain….?…….NO……..
