Religions Are Only Mediums and Spirituality is a Science

Happiness | mind | Religions are mediums | Science of Spirituality

Spirituality is a term that is currently in too much use considering how poorly it is understood. The term may conjure up images ranging from Yoga postures to meditation to alternative medicines. What does any of that actually have to do with Spirituality?

Spirituality is often wrongly equated with one or another of the world’s many religions. But it does not belong to any religion. Religions are mediums. That is, they are channels for the truths of Spirituality. Some religions act as better channels than others; however, Spirituality itself remains as something that can be set apart from any religion.

Spirituality is a science. It is the science of the subtle levels of an individual’s personality. Spirituality tells us what is the “I. All of us, at some point in our life, ponder over the question of who we are and where we came from. Before we can begin to answer such questions as “who am I? we need to know what “I is.

The science of Spirituality tells us what we can find within ourself if we look. It provides us not just with information but also with the tools and methods to verify that information with our own experience.

As a science, and unlike the religions with which Spirituality is often wrongly equated, it never asks us to accept anything on faith. All of the premises of Spirituality can be verified through experiment. Those experiments may not take place within a laboratory. In fact, they will take place within our own mind. But they are verifiable experiments nonetheless because if we follow the given steps and procedures then we are sure to arrive at the promised results.

We all spend the great majority of our lives with our attention focused outside of ourself. Time quickly slips by while we pursue our careers and build a home for our family and ourself. The great irony of that situation is that our ultimate aim is to be happy and yet we are pursuing that goal in the wrong place. Happiness won't be found outside of our own self. If our mind is agitated then success in the world won't enable us to feel happy. If our mind is still then happiness will come from within us and it will do so with a dis-regard for our external circumstances.

That is the great importance that a proper understanding of this science of Spirituality can play in our lives.
