Rediscovering Thrift Stores

My husband got a new job (he's a supervisor now, yay!) and he needed to go shopping for some new clothes. His last job issued uniforms, so those wouldn't work for the new position with a different company. Besides, he's lost over 35 pounds since our last shopping trip!

We're a little strapped right now, so we decided to try shopping at some thrift stores. Boy, am I glad we did!

Thrift stores have changed a lot since the last time I'd been to one. Gone were the icky double knit polyester pant suits, tatty sweaters, and broken vcrs. Along with nice clothes were cds, books, and some nice shoes. The place did still have a dusty smell, and an occassional hint of mothballs, but hey.

$35 later, we had 7 pairs of pants. He got Dockers, Polo, and Eddie Bower slacks, some with the tags still on from the original retail store. Not a bad haul. No 'slightly irregular' stuff in sight. Sweet.

Somehow, several books jumped into the cart, so I had to get those. And some new teacups. I didn't dare to venture into the knick knack area for fear of more objects trying to liberate themselves. I'd already spent $4 on my stowaways that I probably shouldn't have.

To make things even better, a good part of the proceeds go to charity. The next time you drop off items at the local thrift store, take a minute to go inside. Look around and see what you can find. You may be in for a pleasant surprise.
