I happened to visit a traditional hilly village in Shiillong two months back. The village lacks proper roads and transport facilities. My destination was my uncle’s home and I struggled a lot to reach the place. I get down a local place from the bus where my cousin was waiting for me.
We started walking and it was some thing like up hill. I started to get a feeling that I was doing something adventurous. Believe me, it took nearly 3 hours to reach the house and I was completely ruined. But I couldn’t believe my eyes that my cousin stood with normal breaths. Practice makes man perfect! I asked my uncle about it and he smiled at me.
We went for a local sightseeing after a long day rest and started walking at decent speed. I saw many aged but healthy people on the way who passed by me during the journey. I am quite sure that many old people I happened to saw must have crossed their age above seventy five. It is really wonderful to see that these old men and women walk so fast. I asked my uncle about it and he again smiled and told me that their way of life is the main reason for it. The locals here usually walk around 5 miles for various reasons. They are leading cholesterol free healthy life only because of this long walks.
That journey is one of my turning points of my entire life as I realize the importance of morning walk. Now I am very happy to reveal that I started to lead a life avoiding vehicles as far as possible. Believe me it is proven worth.
