Koike Yuriko buys anime figure and says, 'Otaku saves the world'

Otaku culture is inescapable in Japan, including these ads on a commuter train in Tokyo, January 2008.
YO's rating: A | If you want to know the deepest, darkest aspects of the otaku culture, (the) Road to the Deep East, otherwise known simply as Gaiginheart, is the place to go. Formerly known as the blogger Santos, this writer must have his own flat right in the heart of Akihabara, and claims to be a "reformed" otaku, but methinks otherwise after sampling a number of these intriguing posts. RDE goes from glorifying otaku ways (in this case saving the planet) to condemning what he says is a corrupted gravure idol industry, and most of the time, thankfully, does not automatically mix the idol J-pop music industry in with the bad apples. This particular installment deals with saving plastic bags. In any event, RDE is out front of mostly everyone on the topics that mean the most to otakus, or just the curious.
