Random thoughts from missmaster: post your weird dreams here!

Well I just read the dream entry below and got to thinking about dreams. Why do we have them? What do they mean? And who came up with the meanings you see in these dream interpretation books you get? Ok so you dream that a giant worm is eating you for breakfast: meaning: you are going to become very rich. Ok whatever. Yes, I can see how you could get that. Not. Seriously though, why does our mind create these scenarios? To pass the time that our body needs to re-energize itself? Or is it memories from another lifetime? Well, maybe not the worm one. Or it could be, I suppose! LOL Some believe that they tell the future (I hope to god I don't get eaten by a giant worm!). Or maybe they are symbolic of events that have passed? What do you think? I do find them intriguing. I'd love to hear other people's dreams so please post them here! Let's try and figure out what they mean!

Dreamscape

While in University I took an entire course on Dreams. Of course, we studied Freud. After University when I began to learning about Judaism, I found something quite interesting. Dreams are said to 1/60th prophecy! In addition to this idea, there is another idea that one should not try to intreprete their dreams, that they are better left "unread" so-to-speak. In other words, they are best left alone. However, if a person has a particulary upsetting dream they can gather three friends and from the Jewish Prayer book in what is called Nusach Sefard they will find "Dream Amelioration" this is a long complicated text that the person reads aloud to "change" the dream and its implications. This is an idea that goes further and there is ALOT more in Judaism and dreams.

I thought you might find that interesting.

Cool!

Yes I think some of the other eastern religions have similar views of dreams, such as Buddhism. I take it you studied Psychology at University? I wouldn't mind doing a course on dreams myself. I find them truly fascinating. Thanks for your input!

University

Actually, I only took two courses in Psychology, but the Dream coursework was apart of my overall major, in Education. I went to a strange school. Then as a staff writer for the school newspaper I created a fictional character called, Dreamscape Abe, who navigated people through their dreams, blending fact with fiction. As to where the images come from? Who knows? I try to not think about that -- although I really seem to have very strong dreams.

No interpretations?

My roommate in college took two semesters of dream analysis and symbolism in college. When I would ask her to analyze my dream, she would say--only you can interpret your dreams. I wondered aloud what the point of those classes were--she couldn't tell me anything.

Maybe

Maybe you are the only person who really knows what your dreams mean. Maybe that's why you dream about particular things: only we understand what they represent to us. Interesting.
