Rain, rain go away

It has been raining these days, since November. Not that I'm complaining, but it is the rainy season in Malaysia. Likewise the winter season in other countries, we cannont avoid it.

The rain in the eveings and at nights sometimes are quite disturbing. Even more with loud frightening thunders and lightnings. Gone is the sun and all the freedom to move freely outdoors.

I still remember when we were young, we lived in a small fishing village. Unfortunately, my father rented a house in the area where it flooded easily. We had to be evacuated to somewhere else every few months. So, my father, with the help of some of his friends, built an 'upper floor' inmside the house. That was so that we all did not have to move during raining seasons.

I had almost forgotten being a victim of the flood until I was a teenager. There was a small bridge that acted as a border separator of two states where I lived. One year, the river overflowed. My father, who was walking to work managed to save a few people who were swept away by the strong current.

As I grew up, I saw with my eyes how floods destroyed properties and lives lost in them.

It was never our power to change the weather. But, maybe we can be ready when natural disasters really happen.
