Quick Move Nearly Impossible

moving | relocation | stress

We are moving to Virginia. It is a big deal for us, or me, at least. I have lived in Indiana my whole life. Not only will I be leaving all of my family and friends, I will be going to a place that I know very little about. We went on a house hunting trip last week, found a home, signed papers and flew home. We will be moving in a little more than a week. All of this has taken place in the last three weeks. My husband decided he was not happy where he was, doing work that he thought was unimportant, so he interviewed for a job in Vienna, Virginia. They offered him the job, and so here we are, leaving all that I have known. It will be a miracle if we can pull this off because of all the paperwork that has to be done. Our house here in Indiana has not sold yet, so we will have that hanging over our heads as well. All of our girls will need to be registered for school, and if it weren't for the "proof of residency" policy, all of that would have been taken care of a few days ago. Moving a family of six plus a dog is no small task. Everything takes so long to get done. We are at the mercy of so many people that it feels like we have very little control over what is happening. I just want to get it over with quickly, but it is so slow going that I am about to lose my mind. I will be looking forward to rolling up the driveway to our new home and getting on with the business of settling in!

Expert mover here

I think I've moved at least 30 times in my life. The last one, just a thousand yards up the street. That was the easiest.

But like you, I have moved cross-country, away from friends and family. It's tough, but the fresh start is a good feeling. It more than makes up for all the spats along the way. Moving just has a way of bringing that out in a relationship.

Wishing you all the best as you turn this page. Thanks to e-mails and unlimited long distance, you can still stay in touch with family on a regular basis.

Ahhh, the art of moving,...

I've moved often in my life, first as a military kid, then to college, and finally 11 or 12 different places in the last 26 years here in my own area. I'm hoping for only one more real move in my life, that to my dream home, once I put the money together for it. At least mentally I've already been ready to move; physically, though, I have to admit that with back problems it becomes a major chore, one that I'm glad I have my wife to help, as well as friends and the money to pay professionals to cart it all around for me.

I know you'll have a great new adventure waiting for you.
