James Frey should come here~ he's getting a lot of free PR.
Here we go.....
You've all heard about James Frey by now.
You have either said:
"I don't agree with what he did.....but...."
OR
"I agree with what he did.....but...."
LisaLogan ,who posts here, said it best:
If you want fiction, go rent Blow~ Johnny Depp is a lot easier on the eyes.
Jimmy Frey wrote a book under false pretenses, he sold it to the public under false pretenses (with help, mind you)........then, he appeared on Oprah and even had her snowed..........the guy did not come clean about fabricating much of its content until he was backed into the fictional section, while his book was selling out in the 'non' aisle of Borders. It was the ornery Smoking Gun, of all places, that foiled it........ shame on those who let it go by to that point~ knowingly and unknowingly. Those guilty of letting him slip through the system have admitted such in order to save their reps, butts, and the biggy, profits.
(Oh, and if by chance you happened to see his "I'm sorry I lied" interview with Oprah? Almost every instance he said he was telling the truth about a certain passage in the book, the audience smirked, and Oprah would get her 'Uhuh' stance n' groove on.)
Look at it like this:
You befriend someone you work with~ the poor soul has given you a sad story about how he just recently moved to the area from Kentucky because his house burned down. During the move, a band of Uhaul pirates hijack the truck, take all of his belongings, and when the two of you leave work at night, he tells you that after he checks the KFC dumpster for a chicken leg, he's going home and sleeping.........in his car.
And the saddest part of all? He has Olestra Syndrome in which, that poor man cannot digest oils and fats properly~ therefore, he sits in his cubicle and constantly, yes...........breaks the wind. It's uncontrollable, embarrassing for all, and to be honest, it's not even jokable anymore.........every day, all day.
Reversed Tourette's of the worst kind~
(I really need to copyright these terms.)
He has to send all of the money that's made back home to Kentucky to care for his ailing grandmother in the nursing home, and his parents are living on a fixed income and can only afford pinto beans and the neighbor's lawn grass. So, with pity in one hand and a pen in the other, you co-sign a loan for this person to at least get an apartment and help poor ol' gramma.
Then one day, you find out.............he's been rearending you hard, and with major force. That lying sack of grit has a swiss account with more money in it than Bill Gates.
Now, here is 'your' dilemma:
When you confront this person and he comes clean, do you forgive him? AND, do you ask for your money back that was taken from you under the most unleading circumstances? Do you feel betrayed?
You probably will tell the man you forgive him, and that may be a lie............we'll let that slide.
BUT...........would you ever trust him again?
Sure, he lied to you, but by lying, it made you understand the plight of Kentucky's poverty, the elderly people living in horrid nursing home conditions, and you discovered 50 different ways to prepare pinto beans. Are you going to say, "Yes, those were all lies, but they helped me to understand." OR, are you going to feel duped?
Hence, the class action law suit filed against the man~
The road to hell is paved with intentions~ which did he have......the good.......or the bad?
And here's the part that really burns you up:
He didn't have Olestra Syndrome, and he didn't even have to ask you to pull his finger.
