Publishing News 1: Da Vinci Code coming to paperback...finally

I was beginning to suspect we'd see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince in paperback before we'd see The Da Vinci Code in paperback, but apparently that's not the case. The paperback edition of Dan Brown's bestseller is scheduled to hit bookstores on March 28, 2006. Originally published on March 18, 2003, The Da Vinci Code launched an assault on the New York Times bestseller list that lasted months, selling over 12 million copies in the past three years. It gained critical acclaim along with a great deal of negative criticism and protest for its treatment of Biblical doctrine. I don't think anyone was surprised at the announcement of the upcoming motion picture starring Tom Hanks.

The mass-market paperback edition will be published as a tie-in promotion for the movie, which according to Sony is scheduled for a May 19. The Da Vinci Code will probably be a hit in theaters, and it's controversy and any protests that follow will probably only serve to promote it all the more. We'll see...

Thanks for the comment. Although I don't really consider myself a Da Vinci Code enthusiast, although the story was interesting, and I will probably eventually see the movie. I try to keep my criticisms to a minimum because I don't really have time to fend off the verbal savaging I might get from true enthusiasts.

Is this a bootleg version by any chance? I borrowed a bootleg copy of the Star Wars movie last year when it came out. The quality was extremely poor and hard to watch.

Thanks, bugsey. By the way, if you like the themes in Da Vinci Code, I'd recommend Foucault's Pendulum by Umberto Eco. His writing is a bit more dense, but it's better than DVC in my opinion.
