Proud to Be Canadian...too uninformed to Vote
So here i sit with a ton of time and not finding much positive to decide upon how i am going to vote in this new election that is coming up here on the 23rd. We Mr. PAUL MARTIN on one hand and Mr. STEPHEN HARPER basically on the other. The trouble is that it is tricky to find out what the hell the actually plan to do if they either get to stay in power or get into power. Each side is dishing out propaganda and what not as if it were hotcakes at a homeless shelter...no offence to homeless people implied. I think when it comes to a point of using "attack ads", which aren't nearly as fun as "attack dogs", it means that the party delivering the ads doesnt really have much going for them (American or Canadian politics) and therefore their only hope is to slander the other parties. This election it seems like candidates are being dropped from both parties...apparently its wrong to try and sneak cars and booze into Canada....or to bribe another candidate apparently...who knew?? All this time, i thought it was okay. Oh of course there is BC's own Svend Robinson. Honesty, integrity and Jewelry Theft!! Okay, maybe its just me but do you really want someone who "just happened" to have committed a theft in politics?
Alas i am to remain ignorant of politics but you wont find old madmax complaining....no right to complain if i didnt vote...maybe next time....unless someone can sell me on some good clear points for one party over another.....anybody see what happened to universal daycare?

Federal Election
Nice to see someone talking about the Canadian Election. I think the biggest problem about the election is that I do not know clearly what each party platform is. Fortunately or sadly for me I'm only a permanent resident so I can't vote federally yet. However, having been in Canada through 3 elections, I know historically the party tendencies are hence I know which direction I would be inclined to make.
I think in broad brush strokes, Conservatives are a right of centre commerce centred party. Liberals have nose dived as a result of the Gomery enquiry. Martin suggested in the last election, he would unite the country but I don't see how he has done that. The west hasn't got anything from him and yes I live in the west! The Liberals and NDP are both socially aware parties to varying degrees.
However, if you've ever complained about the government and have the right to vote then I do encourage you strongly too. In western nations, we have the privilege and right to vote. Sadly its apathy that is damaging Canadian federalism and I think its in danger of unwinding if we as Canadian don't take steps to balance the inbalance.
I think it would be ironic if Western Canada separated from the rest of the country. don't you think? Hope this helps
