Protecting Friends

I have this friend named G. Anyway G loves women...who doesn't.

G's problem is that he can't stick to just one. It's never really been a problem to me(except that he does tend to bring around a lot of annoying and less then attractive girls, but whatever.)

Anyhow he had this one girl named "Carrie" that he was dating for a while. While he was dating Carrie, he was also out banging other girls. Again..not really my problem.

Last night however, G, Carrie, myself and a friend of carries were out for dinner. I had a pretty good buzz going and was enjoying the company etc. G left the table and Carrie asked me about one of his "friends."

First of all it totally killed my buzz, but even in that state I knew better then to rat out my boy. So I covered for him and lied and said "I know blah blah, but I've seen her hooking up with some guy."

I did feel slightly bad about lying to Carrie as she is actually one of the nicer girls that G's brought around and I actually like her, but still...

I told G about this after dinner and he just thanked me.

As a guy I feel it's always my duty to cover for my boys, no matter how wrong they are(and then sort them out later when it's just us) rather then hang them out to dry.

Does everybody follow this same type of code and would you guys have done something differently?

do the right thing like Spike Lee

you most definitely did the right. You have no allegiance to that girl no matter how nice she is. When, assuming they stop dealing, there is a good chance you won't even see her ever again.

Been there, done that

My friend "Buffet" (he's a big guy, we also call him Tubby) is the same way. I have no problem that he runs game but I HATE getting stuck in the middle of it. I would be asked all the time, "Is Tubby faithful? He seems like such a nice guy."

Yea...he "seems" like a nice guy because you don't know him.

This may sound so shady, but this is my feelings:
Like James said it's not your place. Your boy will be there for you forever, relationships come and go.
AND, it's HER job to figure out what HE's all about BEFORE sleeping with him.
Yea, it sucks having to lie. It really is a buzz kill, especially if you're an honest person.
You did the right thing by talking to G about it.

Why does girl #1 know about girl #2 anyways? Isn't that the cardinal rule of dating multiple people? Never introduce them to eachother! It doesn't sound like your boy is a very good player if his women are questioning him!

Not that I would know about being a player....

OK, that was a long time ago. lol.

that was always my thinking

that was always my thinking james and reality. but at the same time I wonder if the shoe was on the other foot-i was in carrie's position-what i would want to have done.

Ultimately I decided I would expect friends to always cover for friends.

And g..yea he's the worst wanna be player in the history. texting other girls in front of the girl he's with, then leaving his phone on the table. Girls leaving their crap in his car/house.

Bascially he serves a guide of "What Not to do" =P

The covenant...

I don't know who said it (i think it was a rapper) but there is a saying that goes: Bros before hoes. It's that simple.

I once broke this covenant because I thought I was just as good a friend with the girl. She approached me about my boy and his extracurriculars and I told her what the deal was. The thing was I told her with the understanding that my name would not come up when she confronted him. What does she do, she goes and tells him that I gave her the info. Almost lost a good friend because I broke one of my own rules.

That's the worst

Yes, I too have been in that situation Weezy. I said the same damn thing (asking to remain confidental) and I ended up losing a friend over it. Bad choice.

It is crummy having to lie to good people because your friend can't be honest.

When I used to date several people at once I was FAIRLY honest about it. I just made sure that everyone understood that this was not a "serious" relationship. I made sure my "dates" knew that I was not EXCLUSIVELY their girl. There's ways of "saying it without saying it".
I just would drop hints.

I don't know if G could do that. It sounds like he has all ready made Carrie think shes his one and only.
