To prove we are immortal is a subjective exercise so in order to understand one has to apply one’s mind in a positive manner.
2500 years ago Socrates proved our immortality in his fashion, today the subject has taken on a different meaning as so many individuals follow the religionists view.
Religionists can’t possibly be correct as if you have the ability for living an eternal life you are already immortal; eternity can’t exist in time, eternity is not measured as a sequence of milliseconds stacked together to form an endless sequence of events but is a “Now which exists eternally!
Bodies can’t possibly be immortal as they are subject to the physical universe laws and nothing of the physical universe exists which is immortal. Our bodies are composed of atoms, all of which has at one time been a part of a sun, a plant, a rat; we possess cells which have been employed by ancients who were cannibals, kings and fish.
The first step in understanding is to look at children; we who have had children are often struck by their dissimilarities. Children, from the time of birth seem to have their own personality completely different from either parent. Those who do not have children of their own have all seen children of the same parents who have completely different personalities.
The one aspect all of us have in common from childhood on is our desire to belong. We all take on the beliefs of our parents and piers so we can be a part of the society. These aspects of society which we take on are modified slightly to suit our own inherent personality, yet great deviations are the exceptions rather than the rule.
If we were a product of a creator, we would all have traits which were practically similar, modified by our environment, yet this is never the case. The more liberal an environment, the greater the differences between children are. In other words, the freer children are to grow up and be themselves the more “self they are able to be!
Going from our children to the old members of society we see the same basic personality which was possessed by the child is still there. The person is him/herself through the entire lifecycle and great goals and dreams do not really change!
In a restrictive society where children grow up being told that the social answers are irrefutable we see people grow up spending their entire life living as the person they think they are supposed to be would live. They marry a person whom the person they think they should be would want: Then spend the rest of their lives attempting to alter the person’s personality into the ideal mate for their “dream personality. This is of course certain recipe for unhappiness; no person could ever be happy as anyone other than their real self.
