It's almost Project Runway time!!! Today, as I was surfing by the website, I noticed that they had changed the page to reflect the new designers. So, without further ado, we'll get right into the spoilers and talk about the designers and models.
Vincent- he's a Parson's grad, and I am truly impressed with their graduates. He is older than most in the competition, but he looks cool. In his photos, he looked like he could be a tattoo artist, and he was wearing an awesome silver shirt in one pic.
Alison- On the main designer page where everyone is together, she looks awful. Her dress makes her look very wide, which isn't flattering to anyone. Even worse, she is wearing the same dress on her personal page, and it's fine on the head shot. Which tells me that it is really a poor design. Especially since you can see that she is not a heavy girl at all. Furthermore, I get what she's trying to do with it, but I don't care for the actual design, even if it was on a hanger. But, she's one that you can tell has actually made the garment she is wearing, so props for that, cause a lot didn't bother. She has some celebrity clientele, so that counts for a lot in the world of fashion. It's just seriously too early to predict where she will end up this season.
Bradley- seems very inhibited and self-concious. His own clothes are god-awful, but he won't be designing mens clothing much, if at all, during the season. He's experienced and competent, but I don't think he'll be the winner.
Jeffrey- my vote is for Jeffrey to be this season's villian. A) He is friends with Santino. B) He used to be homeless and actually started his clothing line somewhere between doing clothing for his father's Hell's Angels biker gang and his homeless friends with items purchased at Goodwill. Seriously. C) Part of the money to start his own line came from "minor crime". These are not exactly traits which would make him an endearing, grateful sort of person. BUT, his stuff looks DAMN talented. You are seriously cheating yourself if you count him out. And on a personal note, he should be a model. He knows how to rock it in front of a camera.
Laura- Laura is the obligatory older mom, self-taught person that wants to be on the show for god-only-knows-what-reason. I do not believe she made the dress she was wearing, but if she did, it is gorgeous. Even if she didn't, she picked out a gorgeous dress. One note. She really seems like the other ones of this type contestant that we've seen before on Project Runway. She is wearing a beautiful gown, gorgeous shows, perfectly pedicured toenails, and has put on a ton of makeup. All this screams that she really craves fame, and feels it slipping away from her. Finally, and this is the only catty thing I will say (no, the rest wasn't catty, it was simply an observation). That particular shade of lipstick she is wearing is one that one of my dear friends calls (cover your children's eyes here) "Blow-job red". The way to look young is not to wear the most intense red lipstick you can find. She would rival Marcia Cross for her beauty, if it weren't for that damn lipstick.
Kayne- from my homestate. He has dressed several teen and adult pageant winners from Oklahoma. So, I know he has the background in sewing. The only problem is, it is so formal that I am not sure it will work. Furthermore, his own personal style is not great. Black and white combined in all the wrong ways. He could be an Austin Scarlett, but I think he's gonna end up closer to being like Starr.
Robert- did a lot of work on Barbie clothing. And I mean a LOT. Most of his bio deals with Barbie clothes. I think that won't translate well here. He has to dress the models in different type outfits, none of which will probably be meant for a pre-teen. That's not Project Runway's audience.
Angela- frankly, she doesn't want it badly enough. She is into a lot of other things, and fashion is like an afterthought to her. Her own personal style was god-awful. Not flattering in the least. But, she does win kudos for at least partially following her own style instead of what is supposed to be in. Too bad the results were a disaster.
Bonnie- Right this minute, before I've seen a single episode, Bonnie is one of my two favorites. You can tell she made her own top, and it really has her own unique style. Beyond that, it is cute, it is well made, and it is something she could sell right now. I can see that on a store shelf. It would fly off because it is unique, yets fits within what is fashionable now.
Malan- again, fashion seems to be an afterthought. He's self-taught, and he used to be a model. Now he's also a filmmaker. There's just too much going on for him, by his own choosing, for him to really focus enough. BUT, Women's Wear Daily has called him one of the "12 designers to watch for", so I reserve the right to be wrong about him, just like I do with any of them.
Keith- former fashion photographer. Self-taught. Again, fashion afterthought. His own personal style is euro-punk, but it's not especially well done. Jeffrey does it much better.
Katherine- god. She was the Fashion Design Coordinator at Target. And I mean the big Target headquarters. That's not a bad job to have, and she's moved up since then. But the problem is, she looks like a Target girl. Let me explain, because I know a lot of people love Target. Target is fantastic if you are a normal person. Target is AWFUL if you are trying to make one of a kind runway garments. Her clothes are kinda frumpy. The colors are the most bland outfit I've ever seen combined. The skirt is a horror from home ec. A really well made home ec type skirt, but how much is that saying?!? Furthermore, she hated fashion the whole time she was growing up.
Uli- I just couldn't get much of a read off Uli. She's self-taught and didn't start on the course of fashion (fashion afterthought). She had one jacket that looked cool, but her black dress was kinda boring.
Michael- right now, it's between him and Bonnie. He's got the background, he wants it very badly, and I think he's a good contender for it. I am really rooting for him. Personal style was a travesty, but he doesn't do menswear, so it's forgiven.
Stacey- fashion afterthought. She has degrees from Harvard and Stanford, and though those are GREAT schools, they are not where you want to go to learn fashion. Her red dress is classic, although it is on the border between classic and cliche, but her grey dress was stunning. It was a heavy fabric that almost certainly had wool in it, and it looked both modern and retro. And by retro, I mean more like 1930's than 1960's (although it could work there too in brighter colors).
The models are Amanda fields, Amanda Donhoeff, camilla B, Candace Pritchard, Danielle Shriffen, Javi Hairston, Jia Santos, Katie Biassou, Katie Champion, Lindsey Bien Aime, Marilinda, Moon Yung, Narzi, and Toni Heath.
Of the models, I really liked the look of Amanda Fields, Amanda Donhoeff, Katie Biassou, Katie Champion, and a runner up of Lindsey Bien Aime. I predict now that Katie Biassou will be that one model that all the designers wish they had. lol She looks like she knows how to walk.
Again, these are simply my predictions and opinions, and I haven't seen any more episodes than you have.
