UTI is the infection of any part of the urinary tract system, usually caused by the gram-negative bacteria, E-Coli. UTI happens more often to women than men as they have shorter urinary tracts and happen more often between the ages of 15-45. Most women will experience at least one episode in their lives. Common symptoms are:

· Strong urge to urinate but passing only a few painful drops
· Burning or pain during urination
· Fever and chills
· Urine that is cloudy, blood-tinged or smells strong or unpleasant
· Pain in the lower abdomen, back or flank
· Frequent urination throughout the day and nigh

Urinary tract infection (UTI) is not only annoying and painful. It can also affect the general condition of your health. Here is what you can do to prevent infection:
· Drink at least 2 to 3 litres of water daily to flush away the bacteria
· Do not delay emptying the bladder.
· Keep the genital and anal areas clean and dry. Wipe or wash from front to back after emptying the bladder or bowers
· Avoid alcohol, caffeine, carbonated drinks, chocolates, refined or processed foods and simple sugars
· Empty the bladder before or after exercise or after sexual intercourse
· Use sanitary pads instead of tampons
· Include celery, parsley and watermelon in your diet, which act as natural diuretics
· Wash the genital area after sexual intercourse
· Urinating every 2 to 3 hours can help
