Pregnancy and Women's Health

Abortion | O Ceallaigh's Observations | pregnancy | public health issues

Why is banning abortion a public health issue?

Lessee now. At the beginning of the 20th century, the death rate for pregnant women in the USA was 1 in 100 live births. In Sierra Leone and Afghanistan presently, it's 2 per 100 live births.

The death rate for US soldiers sent to Iraq in 2003-04 was one for every 400 soldiers deployed.

Thanks to modern medicine, the death rate for women in pregnancy today is 1 per 10,000 live births. But that modern medicine costs tens of thousands of dollars per baby. In an uncomplicated pregnancy. Oh - you said you don't have health insurance?!?

That's enough. Do your homework next time, John boy.
