Pregnancy After Tubal Ligation
Is a tubal ligation full proof? Nothing being 100% I am having a pregnancy scare myself. And in search for answers, I came across a group of women who say they have become pregnant since their sterilization. A couple women are also saying that they have gone through two separate surgeries and got pregnant. I scratch my head and find this hard to believe. Twice! Come on.
I had my tubes cut and burned twelve years ago, the most effect method there is, and still I found woman with the same procedure claiming to be pregnant. I observed an on going theme on these message boards. Only a small percentage were ever actually pregnant, most of those ending in a tubal pregnancy. Only two woman had live births. So the theme was, these were desperate woman wishing that they were pregnant, women who regret ever being sterilized.
Each post ended in “It must be God’s will. Or “ If this is God’s will than it must be for a reason. Now, I am not unsympathetic or heartless. If anything my heart goes out to these women. But when I read between the lines, that is their prayer to God. They are actually saying God, Please I beg of you, let this be your will. And as I read further, were do these woman get their facts. They are putting themselves in danger waiting and talking about it in these chat rooms day and night. If pregnant, it most likely will be in your tubes and that is life threatening. And somehow, I don’t see that being anyone’s will.
A tubal ligation is 9 8.8% effective. Now one person would say my doctors says that 1 out 300 get pregnant and another argue that her doctor says 1 in 500 women get pregnant after sterilization. All I could think about was where the hell did these doctors learn math? 98.8% means 2 out of ever 100 women will become pregnant. Nowhere did anyone state from a medical point of view if it would be a healthy pregnancy.
I counted the same question 237 times on a post. “ I had my tubes tied, but I feel pregnant, could I get pregnant still? “ Someone please answer them all ready. YES! You can, but this may not be a good thing. So, instead of daydreaming about baby booties and diaper pails, they need to get checked out by their doctors. Their life depends on it.
I felt these women were all fishing for confirmation that they could be pregnant. It was disturbing to me that some would not give up after a negative test. What is worse, these woman are giving each other advice medically. I wish I could reach out to them and tell them the real facts. Tubal’s fail most likely the 1st year you have them. The younger you were when you had the procedure the more likely it can fail. A tubal pregnancy will not always show up on a urine test. It is very important to have your blood drawn as soon as you suspect pregnancy. There is the chance that you can have a normal pregnancy and deliver a healthy baby. Stop getting advice from your peers and talk to medical professional instead. If your doctor has told you that you are not pregnant more than once, your most likely not pregnant. If you disagree then seek another medical opinion.
But here is the most important fact of all. There are more successful tubal ligations done than failures. I am still searching for those happy and healthy births to report back.
