This site educates on the subject of "dysautonomia", which is a variety of disorders that are a result of a dysregulated involuntary nervous system. This system, also called the "autonomic nervous system", is what regulates our involuntary bodily functions, such as blood pressure and heart rate. Any function of the body you do not fully control, is in this catagory. We can influence these systems but we do not turn them on and off or keep them going, they are automatic.
One very common form of dysautonomia, is that which causes a person to feel dizzy and/or faint, upon standing from a seated or supine (laying down) position. This type is called "othostatic hypotention" or "orthostatic intolerance". There are a number of other disorders in the dysautonomia catagory and some can be severe. The common heart murmur called Mitral Valve Prolapse, commonly has a type of dysautonomia that can co-exist with it. Read on this website to become better informed about these syndromes of the involuntary nervous system.
