Pony Canyon’s ‘sellout’ of Buono!

Too bad the sensational Suzuki won’t be ‘available’ along with the rest of Buono! as Pony Canyon runs short of its ‘collector’s edition.’

Well, this is a first. Received an e-mail last week from YesAsia saying that my recent order for the collectors’ edition of “Café Buono!” has been canceled. Canceled? You mean … Pony Canyon ran out of product? That is hard to believe. Excerpts follow, and I can assure you this is genuine:

Dated March 13, 2008:

Momoko is better than ever as a part of Buono!, but she will be heard and not seen as the DVD version is ‘out of stock.’

Yeah, right. Some customer service.

I have a hard time understanding that the item is “not likely to be replenished in the near future.” I can also understand that a “first press limited edition” is bound to sell out, but less than a month after the album is released? If it’s a ploy to get me to buy just the plain CD, forget it, I’m not biting.

Miyabi is the third megastar for the outstanding Buono! trio, which has sold more than 100,000 copies of two singles and an album in less than six months.

The only reason I even ordered this (and it was pricy at $34 US) was to get the DVD element, which isn’t even a PV; it’s more of a collection of promo clips. I’m a DVD guy; CDs are passé in J-pop any more.

Bottom line: Pony Canyon had better attend to its bottom line with what could be a record-breaking album.

In any event, YesAsia has been a reliable supplier and I just wonder why this happens in a J-pop sales climate that is supposed to be cutthroat and ultra-competitive. No wonder downloading is such a problem.

This is Radicalipton signing off – for now.

CD Japan

I've had good luck (including the limited edition Cafe Buono) with CD Japan. They will hold the shipment until all items on the order are available (I usually place the order 2-4 weeks before the release date), but I've always received the limited editions - even if they show to be sold out when the order ships.

Thank you so much ...

I will follow up on this. Are you a big H!P or J-pop fan?

Yes and H!P makes up the

Yes and H!P makes up the majority of purchases (actually much closer to 100% over the last year or two). There could be worse addictions ;-)

CD Japan appears to be sold out, but as of this post HMV shows to have the limited edition in stock.

What I would love to see ..

... is for this site to have more J-pop contributors such as you. As you can see, my modest offerings draw substantial reads and interest and, hopelly, future Adsense revenue as is the concept here. I would love to read more of your opinions in this corner on these topics, and I hope you gain some value in my modest efforts.

Have you ever heard of American Wota and International Wota? These are excellent hub sites and you might find that community very interesting.

Thanks for expressing interest in this topic, and keep on blogging!

Cult of Pop

Ray's earlier site helped quite a bit when I first discovered H!P. I still read his sites and most other H!P related blogs/forums daily (including both of yours), but I usually only chime in when I can feel I can help. For example, I just checked the AW forum and I have the oldest registered userid that has zero posts ^_^

I got involved ...

... with AW right before IW went online a year ago. The thing I find cool about it is that I've never really been able to find anyone out there who has a clue about Asian music until I stumbled across the whole AW-IW thing. I've never had so much fun, and it spurred me on to take a trip to Japan in January and I was able to attend the Hello Project Winter 2008 concdert at Yokohama Arena, an unforgettable experience. If you look at the latest post on DohhhUp!, the closing song "All for One," I'm on the floor, right side as the song opens, closer to the middle walkway than the launching pad to the right, and about 15 rows back from the stage. It was awesome and will likely be blogging about the whole thing when the DVDs come in and I can remember what happened! It was all so fast and furious. Anyway, it's great to correspond with someone who understands.
