Saving the US Political System, (is it possible)?

Better Government | Government/Politics | Improving life | POLITICAL CORRUPTION | Political Reform

The fact that Plato was correct when he stated that those people who are motivated by money had to be banned from politics has been amply demonstrated to be true by today’s deplorable political situation.

Pointing out the shortcomings of government is no solution so I desired to propose a working system which would alleviate all problems and make life better for all Americans through a political system which works for the American people rather than for vested interest.

I have heard far too much from people who claim their only interest in politics is to improve the lives of all citizens; there is a viable method by which we can insure that this is the real motivation, and not the desire of an individual to line his or her pockets. The main reward for political figures should be the satisfaction which comes from a job well done by serving society, not financial security.

The salaries of all people who have entered the political arena shall remain at the average income of all Americans after leaving office and such people are forever barred from entering the public work force.

Any person elected to public office is to turn over all personal property and assets to the people. If the person is married this also goes for his wife, the children will have all education financed by the treasury and can’t inherit anything from the person entering a life of politics.

The elected officials shall be provided with a basic vehicle for transportation and a simple house. The salaries of all public officials shall be set at exactly the average mean income of Americans and is never to exceed this.

Any corporation or institution found to reward politicians through financial means or gifts is to have all its assets confiscated and turned over to the people.

No person is permitted to run for political office for the sake of furthering a personal agenda; no clerics, or other zealots seeking to further their own biased views will be permitted to run. Should any person after being elected show through actions or views to have run only to further a personal or religious cause, he is to be immediately dismissed and his salary from that point shall be set at the exact figure of the poverty rate. The person is still barred from entering the public work force.

Any income which elected officials receive during or after their terms in office through such endeavors as book writing etc, is to go to the people, their interest is in serving the good of the population, and financial reward is no motivation.
