Police and Fire Federal Credit Union

I have been a member of the Police and Fire Federal Credit Union (PFFCU) for about seven years now. I must say that my overall experience with them as an financial institution has been excellent and I am happy to be a member. I enjoy being a member so much that I actually worked there for a few months while I was in college! With locations spread out around the city, I have no trouble getting to a branch when I need to conduct business in person. PFFCU also offers its “internet brMoreover, the atmosphere of the branches are generally warm, friendly, and professional. Telephone member services offer the same experience; I always encounter knowledgeable, courteous representatives who are eager to answer any questions I have.

I often hear horror stories about overdrawn accounts, low interest rates, exorbitant bank fees, and mandatory minimum balances. None of these things occur at PFFCU. Account set up is easy, requiring only $5 for a savings account and NO money for checking account. Not that I enjoy bouncing checks, but NSF fees are only $19, which is cheap compared to the $35 and $50 fees at some of the other banks. If I had to cite any cons I would say its the hours, and even that is not a huge inconvenience. I do the majority of my banking online, but when I do have to go into a branch I just go on Thursday or Friday after work when they’re open until 7 pm.

Although some of the other banks brag about being open late and 7 days a week, I would not compromise the excellent service and low fees for extended hours. Another thing that could be improved upon is the amount/location of PFFCU ATM machines. Other than at the branches themselves, there are very few PFFCU ATM machines around the city. Thankfully, PFFCU offers 10 free ATM withdrawals per month. On the few occasions that I have to withdraw money, I use the ATM machine for free at my job or at Wawa, or at a Sunoco for 50 cents. All in all, these are small issues in comparison to the positive experiences I have had since becoming a member.
