Please! Send A Holiday Card To Our Troops! (address included!)

There are many among us, myself included, who do not support the war in Iraq. But, I think it’s important to put our opinions and agendas aside to remember that flesh and blood, human being’s ~ our own people ~ will be away from their families come Christmas and Hanukkah.

I caught this on the news last night and have already written up three separate cards (man, I LOVE Microsoft publisher!) and will at least attempt to get the kids here involved as well. This group, Move America Forward, is collecting holiday cards to send over seas. I haven’t looked into this group, as all that’s important to me is the effort they’re making. Below is a cut & pasted clip from their website, but you can also find a link to their site below that.

It is so important to let them know they are not alone and are missed. Too many of our men and women are coming home in a box. It doesn’t matter if we don’t believe in the merits of this war. What’s important is that we believe in our people.

On the outside envelope be sure to write either: “Christmas Card for Our Troops” or “Hanukkah Card for Our Troops” or “Holiday Card for Our Troops” (for those who are not religious) so we can be sure the cards are properly distributed to our military men and women serving overseas.

I don't support the war either, but I know I wouldn't like to be away from my family at the holidays.

I have the benifit

of knowing someone quite well who fought in this war. And, after realizing just how important it is to his state of mind that he continue to believe that the war is just, I'm pretty sure those still fighting there do also. For them to believe otherwise would actually make it impossible to function. I mean, imagine being forced to kill and then living with those deaths.
So, it's with thoughts of him and the others who are still there that I feel this is so important. They are our people and it doesn't matter if we agree with why they're there. They are there, so let's try to make the load a bit earier, right?
I figured you'd support this idea and am greatful to you for it!

I used general terms. Because it's not just US troops fighting and therefore, everyone should get involved. I just wish I knew where other organizations in the world are who are doing the same. I'm sure you know the suicide rate is higher this time of year anyway. I cannot imagine what it must be like for the people over there. There have been so many funerals in this area over the last couple of months that I've actually lost count. All of them died in combat due to this useless war. We can't bring them home, but we can at least send them the message that they're loved and missed.

The link for the card program? Actually, no one sent it to me ~ I saw it on the local news the other night. They had a link from their website, which sent me to the home page.

oh well, if you're like me, you have more than one addy and not everyone in the address book is the same! LOL And, it is a great cause to get behind. Especially with so often we're finding less and less that we can believe in. That's why I didn't look into the group ~ I don't want to know how they feel about abortion or anything else like that. I'm not joining, just helping out on this one thing.
