Please Don't Make Me Drink My Orange Juice

I have never been a great lover of orange juice. The other day my husband said he had seen a program that documented some studies showing that orange juice might be useful in preventing Parkinson’s disease.

I think he may have been just trying to encourage me to drink my orange juice. There is nothing that ruins a meal for me more than to sit down to eat and forget to drink that little glass of OJ before taking a bite of whole wheat toast slathered with jelly. Then drink your juice like a good little girl (or boy) and be prepared to pucker. Yuk!

I’m sure the people in Florida, especially those in Orlando, have a far different attitude about orange juice, as the citrus industry is what really added to the boom in their economy. The early settlers there were forced to flee from Indian Wars nearer the coast of Florida to find a safer place to raise their families. Although they started as a tiny town of only 85 people in 1875, by 1950, it had become the Orange capital of the country with 80,000 acres planted. The industry has continued to grow ever since.
