I recently went to see the highly publicized "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest". Having seen the first one on DVD shortly after it came out, I was quite excited to see if the sequel would live up to the original. I prepared myself by getting a giant tub of popcorn and the gallon of Diet Coke they call the large size and then found a couple of prime location seats for myself and my date.
Difficult though it may have been to live up to the first film, I am pleased to announce that the sequel really did do justice to the original. The cast, including the very beautiful threesome of Knightley, Bloom and Depp, looked even better in this movie, if such a thing is indeed possible. Leaving looks aside however, the movie itself is extremely well done. The computer generated imagery is absolutely amazing and I was literally in awe at the amount of detail they put into some of the characters' costumes and makeup. The story itself is rather complicated and at times requires viewers to know the plot of the first movie very well. I recommend watching the original Pirates of the Caribbean a day before you go to see the sequel as it will refresh your memory. If you have not see the original please take the time to do so as it will only confuse you to see the sequel without any prior knowledge of the story.
Although the plot is complicated, the movie itself is very exciting and the intricacies of the plot make it more interesting to the viewer. I did not once, through the entire 2 hours, find myself getting bored or my mind wandering. The best part for me were the action scenes, especially one near the end which involves a sword fight on a giant mill wheel. I will not give away more of the story, but do trust me that it's a fantastic scene and it will have you both laughing and on the edge of your seat. I highly recommend you see this film and take your kids to it as well. It's more of an event than a movie and a highly enjoyable one.
Happy Watching!
