PBS

I was watching Frontline on PBS last night. Normally, you would have to put my head in a vice to watch PBS. Normally, I would rather watch my own death. But last night I was watching the Frontline on the human trafficking and sex trade that goes on in Eastern Europe. It was really good and thought provoking. It made me realize how shitty some other parts of the world are, Sure we got pimps, prostitutes, and disease spreading whores here, but for the most part that lifestyle is a choice. These women from poverty stricken hell holes are lured and tricked into working in the sex trade market. And once there they are basically treated like "slaves". Sure we got pimps, prostitutes, and STD spreading whores here, but for the most part that's a choice. These young girls from these poor countries don't have shit and leave their homes with the hopes of a better life but instead find they're serving 8-15 dudes a night. Sure we got that on any Hollywood street where some young chick leaves the Midwest hoping to strike it rich as an "actress: and ends up being the center piece of a 10 man circle jerk in a porno. That happens, but these girls can always go home and regret their bad decisions elsewhere. What got me was that there was this one guy who was looking for his wife. His wife had gotten swept up in the sex trade and he was hell-bent on finding her. Eventually, he found her, but I can only imagine how their lives are now. If she doesn't have a life threatening STD the mental anguish she probably still endures doesn't make for good dinner conversation. It was a good show. It made me think and I like shows like that. It made me realize how shitty this world can be and that it's hard to believe in the kindness and generosity of humanity with shit like this going on in the world. From now on I'll continue to check PBS to see what's on, before attempting to strangle myself. Yeah, I'll skip Sesame Street and all that noise but I might just watch Zoombafoo.

The Outside world

As much as I don't "enjoy" watching such material on television etc, it does bring you back to reality and realise that the outside world is pretty awful. Just picking up the daily paper is enough to make one sick. What we need is strong people to fight (and I don't meen via war or guns or the like, to make our world a better place. The best place to start is with each individual - we all have a role to play, firstly by ensuring that we do the right thing, and then encouraging others to do so.
