The sixth type of distorted thought is the idea that we should fear to those things that we consider dangerous and that we need to continue fearing until the danger disappears.
This is something irrational, because this thought won't prevent things to happen and in some cases it precipitates them. We become so exhausted by continuously concerning that when the things finally happen we won't have the capacity to face them.
The majority of things that we are afraid of don’t end up happening and those that happen, are not as bad as we had imagined. The best form of dealing with problems is to face them directly. Of course that we will treat that this confrontation be the less dangerous as possible and we should try to plan things in the most effective way. However, the constant concern for a problem won't solve absolutely anything. Even when the worst ends up happening, we should observe it in a realistic way, as an unpleasant event and we’ll try the best we can to turn that negative experience into something useful to our emotional growth.
What most of people do is to allow that the negative facts of life destroy them emotionally. Life should continue ahead in spite of everything and still it is worthwhile to live with difficulties, problems and failures.
We need to understand that a problem is not the end of the world and to stop seeing the possible unpleasant situations as terrible threats, because this brings us a lot of unnecessary anxiety. Perhaps the things neither end up happening and if they do, perhaps they won't be as serious as we imagine them. It doesn't care how much I worry about something, at the end things will happen their way.
We waste a lot of our time fearing to circumstances that we believe they can be tragic and in fact they are not, they are tragic only in our mind, in our way of thinking. This is another pattern of distorted thought that harms us a lot.
