PAMPERS VS HUGGIES

Submitted by ms zola on June 19, 2006 - 3:40pm.

My daughter just recently gave birth. And in the midst of things we bought every sort of baby product imaginable. Her request was for diapers so that she wouldn't have that expense for awhile as she was managing so many other expenses. So, her Dad and I bought an assortment of diapers.

Mostly we bought Pampers brand disposable diapers and the Huggies brand disposable diapers. I had plenty of coupons for both and both were name brand products. My daughter started off with the Pampers as we had purchased more of them in the newborn size. Then she used some of the Huggies. When it came time to make another disposable diaper purchase, she said to buy only the Pampers because they were more absorbent and didn't leak. The Huggies leaked badly. None of the Pampers brand leaked at all and therefore baby didn't wake up due to wet clothes and bedding. Not true for the Huggies brand. Baby woke up every time due to wet clothing.

It would seem her experience might let the Huggies people know they need to work harder on making a truly absorbent product. For the most part she has found a huge difference in many products for babies.
As of yet, we have not tried any store brands or Luvs. I'll let you know in a future blog if Pampers holds up against the others

huggies are awful in the smaller sizes, we loved using pampers with our son though! they were softer and never leaked. when my son got to be about 8 months old we started using luvs which we actually had good luck with and also gave huggies another try. in my experience the huggies work fine in larger sizes although pampers still seem much cushier. i also really like the Costco/kirkland brand of diapers. i was really wary of trying out a generic/store brand, but these are awesome (for an older baby). and now we are potty training so my son wears little cotton undies (he'll be 2 years old next weekend!) and our diaper usage has dropped significantly. yay!

We found Pampers to be the best, but we often just used a store brand and changed them slightly more often. It was still enough of a price difference that we came out ahead, even changing them more often. The Huggies were still better than most, but they weren't good enough to justify the price, whereas the Pampers were. We didn't have any luck with Luvs. They were awful about leaking.

But if you want to be like them, you'll have to emulate. -Ayria

but everything else we have tried from Cosco/Kirkland brand has been good. Consumer Reports even tested laundry detergent and found Kirkland better than the name brandss.

- I have had great luck with the Kirkland products I've tried. Although I'm a Huggies gal myself. I've heard it can really vary depending on the kid, but we found Huggies leaked the least overall for my kids - and with triplets, we went through a LOT of diapers! We did use Pampers some and Luvs too, but for us, Huggies seemed to work best. I've never found a definitive answer to this question though.

I love Costco, though, and especially all the healthier selections and organic foods they are getting these days.

I can only imagine how many diapers you have bought. We had twins and another one a year later and we went through a large box of diapers every single day.

Maybe We Should Blog about Cosco since we are raving about it! So far, we have been happy with everything we have purchased at COSCO.

We liked Pampers a lot more too but I've found Teddy's Choice Supreme diapers locally as a store brand are quite good and $5 less a bag. For newborns, I'd definitely stick with Pampers. I tried the parent's choice from walmart (they're close to pampers) and the other walmart brand (close to huggies) but many of them gave our son a rash and more often 'blow outs' with going #2.
Most people I've talked to have nothing good to say about Huggies in the smaller sizes.
