Pajamas on the Runway?

I'm not sure what is going on in the rest of the country when it comes to this particular fashion trend that has popped up all over Portland, but I can assure you that I have yet to see it on any runway or fashion magazine that I've gotten my hands on lately.....and the trend I'm talking about is pajamas. Really. Pajamas. Every day that I drive my kid to school I see adults, teens, kids, men and women....in pajama pants. And I'm not talking plaid pants that look like flannel pj's....I'm talking actual sleepwear with plaid (yes), bunny prints, clouds, you name it. I don't get it.
I mean, I know Portland isn't high on the scale of fashion meccas...but please people....I'm a mom of 2 young kids and I still manage to at least throw on a pair of jeans when I head out of the house. At Costco the other day I even saw a teenaged girl in flannel pj bottoms (red with yellow polkadots) and fuzzy slippers. Is our society really getting so lazy that we can't bother putting on clothes in the morning anymore? Really? Or is it just my town? In which case, I really gotta get out of here. I'm tired enough as it is....last thing I need is to be reminded of sleep every time I leave the house.

MM, I'd love to hear from other people on this one
because I'm completely flabbergasted. Here is Dallas/Ft. Worth I've never seen people wearing pj's around in public. We see bluejeans with the waistband tucked under a ginormous gut and the ass-end bagging so far that a butt-crack is only a knee-bend away - tight leggings on women the size of a Volkswagon with one of those mini t-shirts on top - short-shorts on women older than me who are also wearing stilletto sandals and halter tops, with rhinestones on everything - bluejeans on women so skin-tight that you can see the complete outline of their fun stuff, with the seam cutting a line right up their crotch (those must hurt like hell) and those gals are almost always wearing their Roper boots - the usual kids with their baggy pants hanging so far down that you can see their butts but, fortunately, it's also the style to wear boxers with those - and then just a general assortment of dirty, wrinkled, mismatched, out-of-date and just-plain-ugly stuff that just screams trailer park. And that's all at the mall. At Walmart, those people would be well-dressed. But, no, no pj's. I'm not sure which I prefer. If the pj's cover everything, I think I'd prefer those. LOL!
ROFL PussyWillow!
your description of the clothing trends in Dallas had me on the floor! sounds like your city is a step up from mine in that at least everyone there gets DRESSED (even though i think i'll take pj's over seeing anyone's funparts outlined in denim....yuck!). we do have a lot of the trailer park chic over here too along with the new generation of hippies that just looked really unwashed and homeless.
the short shorts on the elderly ladies with heels is freakin hilarious though! havent seen that here.....but i'm sure that if portland were warmer you'd see plenty of that too! LOLOLOLOL!

My own daughter did that to me the other day...we left the house to pay the rent and I glanced over at her when we were already at the rental office and noticed her pj's....I waited till we got in the car then asked her WTF?? She looked at me and said "Oh mom it's just the rental office" She knows me well enough to know that, like you, I never leave the house without uuuum, getting DRESSED!! I take it a step further and don't leave the house without...brushing my teeth, combing my hair, and YES I also apply make-up!
Sassys!
my mom and grandmother were raised to be true ladies in every sense of the word too....my grandmother took it a step too far though, in my opinion. she still to this day goes to bed with lipstick on in case she has to be rushed to the hospital in the middle of the night. no joke. you should see her pillowcases!!!

The bare ass syndrome MM is bad BUT
http://bloggerparty.com/blog/sassys
the absolute worst thing as far as dressing goes ...is skin tight pants on any woman...I mean skin tight that shows too much lip if ya get my drift...now that is eeeeew, gasp and vomitus!
Awww, Sassys! You never leave the house without
makeup? Even just to go to the rental office? My mother would be sooooo proud of you! LOL!!! She can't stand it when I go into town without my makeup. Hell, she won't even just hang around the house without putting her makeup on.
Well my mother PW
http://bloggerparty.com/blog/sassys
was someone who RARELY, if ever, left the house and even though she was at home with just us kids...she always dressed well and wore make up:) She was a true "lady" and I guess I kinda took after her in that way. It's like people that take a flight now a days...I still dress like it matters:)
I have no doubt your mom was a true "lady" but I
don't think makeup and dress is the deciding factor on that. If you're lucky, you'll never have to meet my mother to learn just what I mean by that. LOL!!!
I dress to please me. That absolutely does NOT include wearing my pj's to town - or tight leggings and midi-shirts. But I don't always feel the need to do the whole makeup routine, especially if I'm just running a few errands.
Of course, if you're waiting in line for the bathroom while I'm getting ready to go to work or to go someplace special, you might wish I took less pains with my dressing.
LOL Maybe Sassypuss should write a blog
http://bloggerparty.com/blog/sassys
and title it "The true meaning of a lady" ACK!
PJ's must be the new trend
cause all the kids here seem to do it alot more.Their wearing them everywhere. Actually , I even think my daughter went to the doctor here in town in her pj pants and a t-shirt. I dont particularly care for the look. How hard is it to throw on a pair of jeans and a t- shirt.
Ammorton...you've seen it tooo!!
so portland isnt alone on this one! LOL! i just dont get it. i mean, with teens i could see how its obnoxious but passable, but i've seen full grown adults in their pj bottoms. now that is just shameful!
