A web release notes the history of Paintball guns; apparently they originally used by the forestry and farming industries to mark trees and cattle. It goes on to say early paintball guns were similar to many paintball pistols of today in that they were also powered by CO2 cartridges and had poor range and mediocre accuracy.

The original paintball guns used for tree marking had to be altered for safety reasons; their velocity was reduced. The Splatmaste was the first paintball gun manufactured for the sport of paintballling. This was patented in 1985. The development of paintball gun technology has concentrated on greater speed, accuracy, and air efficiency. The guns have also become lighter and smaller over time. All these developments are probably due to the changing nature of the game whereby people are currently beginning to play more tournament-style paintball. This kind of game requires the gun to be easily manoeuvred.

The web release continues by saying paintball guns will probably continue to develop and alter as new technologies are developed; they will become smaller, lighter, more accurate, and more air-efficient. The company who issued this web release - Zephyrpaintball.com - was established in 2004. Their mission was to bring low prices, customer service and fast shipping to the wonderful world of the paintball. Zephyr Paintball can therefore provide cheap paintball gear and yet they also sell products from some of the top manufacturers; such as Smart parts, Kingman Spyder, Tippmann, Proto, and More. They claim to match competitors prices on all in stock Paintball guns. Can’t say fairer than that.
