Over 60 Businesses You Can Start & Run From Home#3

Terry Snipes's picture

Yesterday was a special day! It was my birthday: April 17! Today I'll be giving just 3 small businesses you can start and run from your home. But tomorrow, after I've partied myself into old age, I'll be back with 4 more.

Are you ready?
'Cause I'm ready.
So. lets go!

7. Bed & Breakfast

You can use extra rooms in your home to make money with your own bed & breakfast business.

Start up cost: They will vary depending on how much work you need to get your place spruced up. Bed & breakfast businesses do well in areas where there are local tourist attraction, a hot golf tournament, a college or university, then you have a very promising future as a bed & breakfast entrepreneur. Start-up costs will range from $100 to $500 depending on what you need to do and to place a local ad.

Things To Think About: Advertise your bed & breakfast in a regional magazine. Many people buy regional magazines when they are going to visit a particular area. Advertise during high season.

8. Car Buying Consultant

You help people buy cars-used or new. If you are a car buff and love reading about the automotive industry, this could be a great business for you. I met a car buyer who met with the client, compiled a profile of what they liked and what they were willing to spend, and found the perfect car for them. New or used. He charged $350 for his service and the customers he shopped for were all very satisfied.

Start up cost: You'll need to heavily promote this business to your customers, so figure on spending up to $1,000 for flyers, ads, and direct mail.

Things To Think About: You can start this business for less money if you stick to ads rather than get into brochures.

9. Videotape Family Histories

You compile videos (10, 15, 20 minutes) on family histories by interviewing the family members and reviewing their memorabilia history. Include letters, photos, homes and pets.

Start up cost: You'll need video equipment, but if you don't have it, shop around for the best deals. Look online, too. Initial costs are around $500-$1,000.

Things To Think About: You can charge $500 for a 10-minute video and price accordingly from there. You'll need to invest time to meet with family members and then include visuals. Editing will take up time, also, so don't undervalue your service. Undervaluing service is one of the top reasons businesses fail. You don't want that, now do you? For practice, create one for your own family as a portfolio.

That's all the businesses for today. Tomorrow I will bring you more, I promise. If you have any business ideas that you would like to share, feel free to post it in a comment. Until the next business ideas post, keep searching for that dream of home work. Good luck!
