Our Generation: Who's to blame?
The other day on MSN, I watched a broadcast regarding the generation which I was born (concluded to be anyone born after 1970-current). I fall right in that category for being born in 1984. The broadcast continued on about how our, selfishness, lack of respect for authority/others and simply the way we live our lives.
We've become a Me Culture, a culture with hell-bent on living with out morals or emotions. We don't care about who we hurt; trample everyone in our midst, just as long as we get our way. We want the best that money can afford, whose money doesn't matter as long as it isn't our own. We always want our way and we always get what we want, right?
I suppose I can't account for everyone this generation, but at least for myself. But then the issue must be addressed who's to blame to our reckless regard, lack of morals or lawlessness. Two guesses: Society or Parents? Society is blamed because well, culture is to blame for everything. We blame television for all the demoralizing images we see, radio advertising for everything we want and Hollywood for everything else. We blame parents because they're held accountable for the actions of their children no matter age.
I recommend a third option while scratching the other two. My answer: Ourselves. Only we can truly be held accountable for the decisions and choices we make. Parents and society may act as out side influences, but we truly control our lives. To live beyond the selfishness, pride and arrogance our generation has so readily ensnared. Because no matter what every life will be held accountable to God. My every action, every inaction, every thought, word and deed will be revealed. That is a terrifying concept, but still I've chosen to continue in the me-way of living. I realize as I stand before God, I stand alone. Let's pray that not only my generation, but every generation will accept the responsibility to make their lives pleasing to the one who should matter most.
As I live, says the Lord, every knee will bow to me, and every tongue will give praise to God.
