Opus Dei of the Da Vinci Code

Opus Dei, the secretive group in The Da Vinci Code, was the fourth popular search term for the week ending May 22. Although the film failed to impress the critics, Opus Dei the catholic organization has shot into fame. In the Da Vinci Code, Opus Dei is the secret group which covers up the marriage between Jesus and Mary Magdalene. This alleged incident in the film and novel was condemned by the Catholic world over. Opus Dei members are presented as monks in The Da Vinci Code. The members are also depicted as murderers and liars. This and several other allegations made in the film and novel against Opus Dei is refuted by the organization.

In reality, Opus Dei is a Catholic institution founded by Saint Josemaría Escrivá. Its mission is to help people turn their work and daily activities into occasions for growing closer to God, for serving others, and for improving society.
