One POW and Why He Will NOT Be Voting for McCain
Phillip Butler was at the Naval Academy the same time as John McCain. In fact, he knew McCain rather well back in 1957-58. Phillip Butler was also a POW. He had been a prisoner for over two years when John McCain was captured and they were imprisoned together for several years.
With this history, you would think that Phillip Butler would be a pretty firm supporter for John McCain but that is not the case. Phillip Butler will not be voting for McCain and he has some pretty darned good reasons; reasons that everyone should consider when deciding who to vote for this fall.
I won’t try and rewrite what Mr. Butler has to say. He’s very eloquent all on his own and doesn’t need me to speak for him. You can read Phillip Butler’s reasons for voting against McCain here. I encourage you to do so. It’s time to get a little Straight Talk out into the blog world about this self-labeled ‘maverick.’

There's a Search box at the top of the page. You have to type Phillip Butler in the box and it then takes you to a page full of links. The 1st link takes you to Phillip Butler's archives and then there is a link to his article "Why I Will Not Vote For John McCain."

I want to read it, but don't have time today and tomorrow ain't looking too good, either! I'll try to get back to it, though. It sounds worth reading, though I can't imagine why anyone would need convincing about not voting for McCain. I'm still so non-plussed about Obama's health care and more recently that he's against gay marriage - but McCain would be a dissaster!

When he and McCain had their "Q&A" at the mega church recently, they both agreed they were against gay marriage. Trust me, something like that was all over the news in LA. I mean, I'm not surprised by it. He is in a race for the White House and it's not popular to be pro-gay. It sucks, but over-all, not something I'm worried about. There's too many people like me volunteering to make sure it stays legal.

I just went and looked it up again.
Obama did agree that a marriage was between a man and a woman - but really, how could he not considering the political climate and considering where he was speaking. He also said he supports civil unions and he is against a constitutional ban on gay marriages and believes it should be left up to the states.
Sassys, I didn't see anywhere that he said one is ok with God and one is ok with Satan. Where did that come from?

Actually, while it would be political suicide for him to come out and say he believes gays should have the same marriage rights as anyone else, I do wish he would and when he is in the White House I think he will. I think "civil unions" are a slap in the face. Still, it is up to the churches as to whether they will recognize gay marriage in a church, so maybe civil union isn't such a slap in the face, after all.

As for his stance on Civil Unions and marriage - it really does seem like he's playing both sides and saying whatever he needs to to keep everybody happy. And, that's been brought up also - the question folks are asking is how can he be unbiased when he has said repeatedly that he's personally against it?
I dunno, but like I said, I'm really not concerned with it. Let's face it, we can't count on anyone in the White house doing right by this issue! We need to change it ourselves or it'll never happen.

What about McCain is it that you personally like? He is ANTI everything all women should care about...be they gay or not! He has said "repeatedly" that he is anti Roe vs Wade and he is definitely anti gay etc. With Obama one needs not fear that womens rights will be permanently removed in this day and age...and McCain and "Cindy" would like nothing better than to see the women of this country back in the kitchen barefoot and preggers! This is something I'll never "get", Sassy. Where and when did I say that I support McCain???? Ohhhhh! Right! Here in this post where I wrote that I DON'T support McCain! Why is it so often that you make these types of assumptions? The sour grapes seem to be yours since this type of reaction is typical anymore. Sorry, but I don't blindly follow anyone - I do look up the issues that are important to me - and even when Hillary was still in the running, I never once tried to deny mistakes or even out-right wrongs commited by that camp. I simply don't live in a fantasy world where my candidate needs to be free of all faults. And, for some reason if anyone has something to say that you don't want to hear about him - well, it's "sour grapes" or it's a lie or whatever. Trying to white wash or rewrite history shows a real lack of faith in the man. Otherwise, there'd be no accusations like this - which is childish and insulting! You know, this is typical twisting of the facts.
Obama has never said that he is opposed to gay marriage. What he has done is actually tell the truth without shading it. He believes that marriage is between a man and a woman because of his religious beliefs. He does believe in civil uions for gays but he does not believe that gay marriage should be banned or that constitutional amendments against them, whether they are state or federal, should be made because it would be discriminatory. He believes, however, that the voters should make those decisions. There's a huge difference between having a personal belief system and wanting to foist that personal belief system off onto the entire population. While I would love for Obama to come out and whole-heartedly support gay marriage, I also appreciate the fact that he is not trying to sway either side on this issue, instead leaving it up to individual voters to decide. I also appreciate the fact that he is not willing to take a stand to either side in order to garner votes.
What I find truly disgusting is the pandering by Bush, swearing to fight gay marriage, thereby encouraging the bigoted, ignorant, extreme religious in their very UN Christ like hatred.

I went again to that link you provided and I like that site so much I joined up. It is kind of weird though for me because I used to dislike Arriana Huffington quite a bit. Yeah, I've been a member there for quite a while.
I don't do alot of commenting but I do some. I'll PM you my SN over there but they have a moderator so not all comments get posted and you never know why they delete a comment. It's usually just not worth the effort because so many people do comment and there are some real trolls and some real assholes.
I've had a couple of comments get deleted here and I never know why. Odd but not a big deal.
