We went to the "most romantic" restaurant in New York last night for dinner in Greenwich village. There were historic relics on the walls, live piano player, fresh flowers, and we ate dinner by candle light. It was definitely mood-setting and we had a lovely dinner. The restaurant week selection menu they had especially for this was delicious. We shared our dishes like we always do and that consisted of green salad, crab risotto, short ribs, breast of chicken, creme brulee, chocolate fondant. The salad consisted of organic greens and balsamic vinagrette/olive oil dressing and the dressing was light enough and not sour or overbearing. The crab risotto was creamy and very warm, the small amount of risotto was totally fine because it is an appetizer. The short ribs had a mashed potatoes with small mushroom and onion with gravy. The meat was tender and succulent. The breast of chicken came with cabbage and small pieces of chopped up bacon with very light yummy sauce. The breast meat was so tender and juicy and the sauce was complementary to the meat, not too oily, not too creamy, not bland. I'm not sure I like the cabbage with tiny chopped pieces of bacon too much. The chicken tasted like a very good piece of fried chicken without all the grease and oil and fat hanging off it. The chocolate fondant was incredibly rich and was very warm. When you break open the middle, the center oozes out with warm chocolate sauce. I love chocolate cake and very picky about what kind of chocolate cake I bite into. There has to be more than just sweet. The taste of the chocolate needs to be rich and decadent with cocoa flavor. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give the chocolate fondant an 8 because the outer layer is very sponge like and I'm not too fond of the spongey chocolate cake flavor but overall I enjoyed it. The creme brulee was good but not the best creme brulee I've ever had. The reason is because the cream was too creamy. It was a little bland for my sweet tooth. For $35 per person on restaurant week, I think the three course meal is a good deal especially for the beautiful ambience of the restaurant.
