On The Lot: Final week

Will Bigham, Jason Epperson, and Adam Stein are the three finalists for the T.V show, "On the lot". Whoever wins shall direct a $1,000,000 film. Now, one-mil isn't very impressive as a budget......but I suppose its better than nothing.

"On the lot" hasn't been very successful. The ratings have mostly been low, the reviews have been mixed and its obvious they are trying to finish it ASAP.

Nevertheless, I have enjoyed it. Sadly, my two favorite filmmakers(Zack and Andrew) were eliminated prior and my interest has somewhat diminished.

Will is a film editor, Jason owns a film production company, and Adam is a film editor as well. These aspiring film directors are no stranger to the film industry.

Who will win? It's difficult to say. I was sure Zach would win without trouble but I was wrong. I personally am not huge fans of either of these three. I'm surprised Jason survived as long as he has.

For the final week, the remaining contestants showed us their top two films of the season.

WILL hasn't had many successes, in my honest opinion. His greatest strength is the soundtrack that accompanies his films. His better films are "The yes men" and "glass eye", with "Spaghetti" being a possible good one.

He chose "Glass eye" and "the yes men" as his two top films, which were pretty good choices.

"Glass eye" is a small film, but stylish enough to be likable. It's flawed, weakly designed, and its obvious the guys not missing his eye but its a magical short film anyway. The lead is solid and the idea is cute. Of course, his score is solid as well.- 6.5/10

"The yes men" is probably his best film of the reason. It starts off with a stereotyped boss barking orders and firing people, but the shocking thing is he wears a dress. It starts off kind of weak, but turns out to be one of the funniest movies of the season. All the characters are well-written and funny, and the acting is good too. The direction is pretty straight forward, but I have no real issues with it. - 8/10

Total: 14.5/20= 7.25/10

JASON has been my least favorite overall. He means well, but I think his style is too art-house to be used in comedies and actions. He is also a bad writer, but I will give him credit for having passion for what he does. He chose "Eternal waters" and "Sweet" as his two films.

"Eternal Waters" was one of my least favorites of "Horror week", yet everyone else liked it! The lead actress is not very good, and Jason focuses too much on her so it shows even more. The use of lighting is interesting(but bad at times), the water coffin was sort of stylish, but it didn't gel as a whole. It feels too artistic to be a horror film and too corny to be considered artistic. It was a failure, in my sad opinion. The plot is about a mother whose son drowned is stalked by a killer.- 4/10

"Sweet" was easily Jasons best film. A married man who forgets his anniversary must go find a proper present, going through all sorts of obstacles along the way. Jason is surprisingly imaginative and the pacing is great. It's more straight forward, but also has some style. I thought this was a solid film overall. -7/10

Total- 11/20- 5.5/10

ADAM didn't do much for me in the beginning, but had a big comeback. He is currently my favorite of the three. His movies have all generally been good. He works well with comedy, but has his occasional bland film. "Girl Trouble" was great, but he sadly did not choose it. He chose "Dough: The musical" and "army guy" as his two favorites.

"Dough: the Musical" is a musical(duh) about a baker and a girl looking for a job who meet in the bakery. The lyrics are clever, the singing is surprisingly good, and the directing handled it all well. My only problem is.....I don't like musicals.

7/10

"Army guy" is arguably the best film in "on the lot", rivalling Zach's "Die Hardly working". An armie guy(wearing a dress) wakes up in a strange house with many attractive women, and chases a Russian who is also wearing a dress. The twist is very good and the final frame is great(Adam usually struggles with the final frame). Overall, I laughed at how funny it was but was also impressed with how well it was made.

8/10

Total- 15/20- 7.5/10

I believe Adam will win, but I could always be wrong!
