Old Guy Adrift In A New Era

Elginbrod's picture

What happened to the rules? Are they all new? Or, are they all gone?

Who are the Heroes? Are they all new? Or, are none of them available either?

Are there still safe, good places to live? Any location safe with good living conditions? or is every place dangerous?

The free market advocates are hiding. Afraid to promote entrepreneurship; embarrassed by the free market larceny demonstrated by some corporate leaders. Those leaders shamelessly rewarded themselves for failure, miserable failure. Have all the honest business leaders vanished?

Politicians appear to be saying the same things, offering me no distinctions regardless of party affiliation. This, while the entire political system pushes towards socialism. Have all the brave and honest politicians departed for parts unknown?

Modesty is in short supply, it seems to be an American sport to expose yourself, to the point of ridicule. Is there an example of good taste available? or is everything now acceptable? Any proper language left?

I need to be fastened down. Bring in some of the old, worn out rules. Add some old heroes and visit some of the old places that were once considered safe, even wonderful. Isn't that where my best memories are? I badly need attachment.

There was a time and there were places where people enjoyed a good standard of living and business leaders were responsible. Our history and country is not without such examples. But it will take some ambition to ferret them out.

How about some strong silent types; men and women willing to keep their clothes on and advocate virtue. Maybe even an account of a family that isn't dysfunctional and makes it to the grandchildren phase of their lives with all the spouses happy and intact. Of course the children will be well-adjusted and productive in their good and safe hometown. I am sure I can find such places, maybe in some old library books. Or I could download some classic movies.

Can't we figuratively turn the clock back and feel secure and learn a few things? There should be a moral to the story. Telling the truth can be admired and hard work can be rewarded. C'mon -- use your imagination!

I need a break. Is the above type of life only available at the classic movie channel, old library books and episodes of Gunsmoke? Surely there is enough material available between 1929 and 1969 to inspire. Moral messages, moral plots, endings that encourage.
I am signing off to go there.
