I'm on record that, as a fraternity, I'm not overly fond of the police. However, I've never had anything but respect for the job they do.
It is in that vein that I write this post, as I woke up to news that a local police officer was shot and killed last night as he stopped a car during a routine traffic stop.
This officer, 32 year old Thomas Lindsey, was a former Marine who had been a police officer only 5 years. And supposedly he loved it, as his dream job.
Supposedly, there was a child in the car; not sure how they know that, but maybe they could see that in the video that most police cars have on their dash these days. If that's true, then this story is even worse. Not only is their a concern about what kind of example that child ends up learning in the long run, but if this person is on the run, now a child is involved. And, at this point, there supposedly are no leads.
How sad. Back in the 1930's, hardened criminals knew that the one thing they never did was kill a police officer; these days, no one seems to care. Yeah, there are bad cops, but I don't believe that's the majority. And this guy certainly wasn't one.
