Of Trumpets, American Idols, and Brave New Worlds

Note to people who are just tuning in to this blog: I’m not much on television. Especially not shows like American Idol or 8th and Ocean. Which just about everybody is talking about except me. Or haven’t you been looking at the Popular Content panel here lately? So who am I to spurn hits? I reckon I can get as popular talking about not talking about shows like 8th and Ocean as Myspaceoryours and Tamiya (and let's not forget Realitycheck) can get by talking about these shows (and about Myspace.com, where these shows are the prime topic of conversation). If that’s clear. If it’s not, go on to the next paragraph anyway, it gets better.
What’s my beef about these shows? All they’re doing is telling us again what Johnny Carson knew all along, right? People will pay more to be entertained than to be educated. I’m an educator, I’m jealous. Eh?
No, there’s more than that. All I can tell you about it at the moment is how I felt after sitting down with nieces and nephew (right, there’s only one) one Thanksgiving, not too terribly long ago, and watched a couple of hours of MTV. Or on another occasion when the show was Dancing with the Stars. Now I’ve already told you that one of the challenges of being me is that I look at the same world you do and see something different. I watched all these cool people prancing and dancing and cooing before the cameras, and I watched my rellies slumped semi-comatose on the furniture while the cool people were strutting, and I didn’t come away entertained, I came away depressed, angry even. I kept hearing the message "Pay us to be beautiful, pay us to be what you will never be, can never be. Stop trying, we've succeeded far better than you ever can and with less work than you do at CVS. We are your identity; follow.

Too late!
Too late OC... I already saw your blog... ;-)
I won't say "I told you so...".... oh wait, I just did... haha
American Idol Madness / MySpace or Yours
So now it starts.
Ah, life is cruel. :) But be careful, I might invite you over to my place for a screening. That would be a fitting punishment ... :)
Devil's Dictionary
I have a suggestion for your next entry in the New Millennium Devil's Dictionary -- Wishful Thinking...
How do you like that one? ;-)
American Idol Madness / MySpace or Yours
I've got a better one
FANTASY, n. Reality, as brewed in Hollywood. Or in the blogosphere. See NEW ZEALANDER.
;-)
Nice one...:)
You realize you're keeping me from my work, right? If some fisherman doesn't make it onboard because he didn't get to fill out his contract... it'll be all your fault... ;-) Ok, maybe partly mine because I keep checking back in... *sigh*...
American Idol Madness / MySpace or Yours
tsk tsk
Go get those fishermen outfitted. Tell them I said "hi", and watch out for amoebae. :)
Whoa!!!
I'm away for a few days only to come back to Myspaceoryours wanting to hook up with techno geeks and O Ceallaigh writing about American Idol. I'm scarred for life.... ;)
Actually, I really enjoyed this post. I don't care much for television either, although I have one for my DVD collection only. It's nice to know I'm not the only one. People find it really strange that I'm under 30 and have never watched American Idol (I'm resisting for as long as I can). I'm going to have to find my copy of Brave New World. That comparison is really good. Books are definitely preferable entertainment for me, although some of the newer fiction titles are almost as bad as television (I don't have time to go into this).
I need to get back to work for now, but it looks like I definitely have some catching up to do.

See what happens when you're gone?
The whole BP universe gets off balance ;-) Although I don't see what's so weird about me liking tech guys...they're hot! :D
American Idol Madness / MySpace or Yours
Actually...
I agree with you... about tech guys I mean. Well, not all of them. In fact, I liked geeks before it was popular to like them. I'll comment on your blog later. I should be working, but the boss has been out today, so I couldn't resist logging in. ;)

Such a rebel...
Lol... I had no idea you were so rebellious ;-) Now that I think of it, I remember you commenting earlier about your significant other...and the fact that he was a techie...
... teach me your ways... ;-)

gom jabbar ...
.... missed you. 'course I was away myself. And my current incarnation is all Myspaceoryours's fault. Next thing you know I'll be on MySpace.com myself hawking competing tracer technology. Complete with my hornrimmed glasses and pocket protector and slacker jeans. Oh, and plenty of Grecian Formula.
yuk yuk :)
is this serious?
is this serious? Is this a real thing? I have not heard of this girls liking geeks mumbo jumbo because they are geeks. What happened to just liking the person for whatever reason. It seems like you want to like someone with a brain and that is understandable. Who doesn't. I would not necesarilly consider someone who is smart or articulate or who knows about computers a geek.
Geeks
Yup...it's true... geeks (or computer nerds, techies) are hot... and it's not just me... although I thought it was... but I guess it's the popular thing right now.
Not to say that we don't like guys for who they are... just that geeks are mighty attractive these days... I mean who wants a car-loving, sports-talking, skirt-chasing Adonis when you can have a geek who knows his way around the computer?!? ;-)

my point is...geeks and
my point is...geeks and "non-geeks" don't fit a certain template the way you make it seem.
Here it comes: Your position is fundamentally flawed with the assumption that these two types of caraciatures can not co-exist inside of the same person.
At the present time I am writing a movie where I intend to depict the charcters in such a way that dispells exactly what you're saying. It has nothing to do with geeks.
