3. What is Nuzividu?
Nuzividu is a small town in Krishna Dt. of Andhra Pradesh, with 40,000 pop. approx. Connected by train: Kolkata to Chennai. 10 km. to National Highway No. 5 from Kolkata to Chennai. It is the largest mango market in Andhra Pradesh.
4. How to get Nuzividu mangoes?
Indian mango exporters are taking up mango exports on a large scale.
Recently, a bilateral trade agreement has been entered between US and India when George Bush visited India.
5. What is the hitch in Indian mango exports to US?
According to Mr. Bush, it will take another year for Indian mango fruits to reach US. India has to amend its Food Adulteration Act to make irradiation of fruits compulsory as part of quarantine, before export. The US Department of Agriculture - Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service has to inspect the irradiators installed for the purpose. At present irradiation is done only for disinfestation of affected fruits and not on every fruit.
6. How irradiation of fruits is done?
By exposing to radiant energy sources like gamma rays and electron beams within a shielded facility. The irradiation removes bacteria.
7. What is the speciality of Indian mangoes?
1. World's largest mango producer.
2. 40% of world mangoes are produced in India.
3. Very little is exported, because of domestic consumption needs.
4. Mangoes are regularly exported to Gulf.
