Not-My-Fault Insurance
Car insurance is one of the most important things that a person can have. With the many accidents I was in while I lived in Michigan, I realized how vital this piece of coverage could be. Michigan is a no-fault state. Basically, that means that nobody involved in the accident is “at fault.”
After an accident in Michigan, the drivers are expected to exchange auto insurance information. The usual stuff is done – calling the police, getting a report, blaming the other driver for the wreck, etc. But following the accident, the matter is left up to the auto insurance companies of the respective drivers. Each driver reports the incident to their auto insurance companies and they take it from there.
This method cuts down on lawsuits between individuals. The process of deciding blame and whose auto insurance pays for what damage is left up to the insurance companies rather than the drivers. Although the Michigan “no-fault” auto insurance has many disadvantages, relieving the stress and headaches of lawsuits is a priceless service.
