Suprise Popular Content

I was looking over my previous posts today and I'm quite surprised to see which one has the most reads. It's the post titled "Being honest with your kids without screwing them up" I can see why, it is an important issue and I'm sure many bloggers are also parents. However I was really surprised that it beat out my post titled "I got a free giftcard" by over 20 reads.
It seems like the thing that I run into the most on the internet and with blogging is ways to make money from home. "How to increase adsense earning." "Top adsense keywords." ect. I was under the impression that everyone was looking for a way to make extra money. I really expected to receive some questions or comments about how I got that free $50 giftcard, but i didn't.
I think its a good sign. It's nice to know that more people are interested in reading my post about a personal experience with a child rather than how to make an easy $50.

This should not be a surprise
This should not be a surprise, it's all about quality content, building a reader base and getting return visits. If your posts are informative people will click the ads because they are looking for something specific. If you post about random rubbish you don't get the traffic and you don't get the clicks.

Yes
I understand your point. However neither of the posts were based on false information, (i'll assume that's what you mean by rubbish). Everyday people search for ways to make extra money online. I was sharing something that I did and I think it was informative, perhaps not as quality writing as I would hope for, but I'm certainly working on it
thanks for the advice:)
I didn't mean to imply that
I didn't mean to imply that your post was rubbish or in anyway untrue, I hope that I didn't offend you.
My point is this, when looking to find ways to generate income via the internet how often do you come across the same old suggestions and advice? It's always about how you can make bucket loads of cash by just creating a blog.
When you are reading that type of post how often do you click the ads on the site because you want to find out more? Compare that to when you are looking for information about a product, service or even news items.
If people are genuinely interested in what you are saying they will do a number of things:
To illustrate further, your post is one of thousands according to the bottom of the page. It is in fact the 9454th peice of content added to the site, I know this from the URL - http://bloggerparty.com/node/9454. And it had been read 17 times at the time of this comment. There are currently 314 guests using the site. This would suggest that this site is getting reasonable traffic and it most probably is, but is it qulaity traffic that is going to result in clicks?
Consider this, there is currently only 3 registered users on the site, that means that less than 1% of the people on this site are even able to post. This combined with the large amounts of time between comments being added to the site leads me to wonder are the 314 guests people reading posts and clicking ads or are they search engine spiders and technorati bots hitting the site because everyone knows that when you post something the first thing that you have to do is tell all the other sites about it.
Sorry I got rambling, all I really want to point out is that people seek out quality content, you don't need to ping every blog list on the internet to get people to your blog if it is quality.
And by the way I totally agree with your observations and it is nice that people are not totally hung on making money.

No worries. I wouldn't say I know all the answers when it come to blogging, if I did I'd be loaded. But I have built quite a few web sites and have a good understanding of how the web works.
