Painkiller Addiction: Opiates

Painkiller addiction just seems like it is getting worse over time. Initially it starts by treatment from a doctor for chronic pain due to an accident, injury or illness and treated with narcotics. It is estimated there is two million people on opiate painkillers.
Examples of opiates are vicodin®, oxycontin®, Percocet®. Others are darvon®, Demerol® and dilaudid®, medications with codeine and morphine in them.
Opiate addiction has taken over marijuana and cocaine abuse in some areas. Research estimates that 9% of the population has taken drugs of some kind in their lifetime. People with substance abuse problems or relatives are at a higher risk for addiction, and need to be careful when taking narcotics.
