No More Nuts

allergies | chocolate | junk food | nuts | peanuts

There was a time when nuts were in everything. Now, it's as though wherever you turn, companies have started to pay attention, and are manufacturing more and more products in nut-free factories. In addition to all Mars bars made in Canada now being nut free, Quaker has recently decided to produce many of its flavours of granola bars without nuts.

For those of us with food allergies, or who have children with food allergies, this is an amazing turnaround! Not being able to participate in Halloween, eat chocolate bars and use vending machines, or have ice cream in the summer, can be such a let-down for kids.

Much of this success has been due to parents and allergic individuals sending letters and petitions to companies, writing in blogs and calling media attention to the issue. If the current trend continues, having food allergies might turn out to be not so limiting after all!
