No Country For Old Men

Cormack McCarthy | Javier Bardem | Josh Brolin | money | No Country For Old Men | Tommy Lee Jones

Before the movie No Country For Old Men came out into theaters, I had the privilege of reading this great book written by Cormack McCarthy: All The Pretty Horses, The Road and Blood Meridian, just to name a few.

Before I get to the movie that the Coen Brothers directed, I just wanted to say that the book was such an enjoyable book to read. I read the whole book in two days and sometimes while I was at work.

The way that Cormack McCarthy writes is very different from other books that I have read. He doesn't use quotation marks when someone talks and his grammar is a little different too. He uses "and" a lot, but it really helps the book move along. I really like the way McCarthy describes his surroundings; he really knows his country, I guess you can say.

He is very descriptive as well, when introducing his characters and the land. The book explains more into detail about what the characters go through and what happens to each of them.

Now, in the movie, when I went to go see it a few weeks ago, I was blown away. Every piece of imagery that I saw was exactly what was in the book, except for the omitions of a few certain details in the book. There a few different changes in the movie that didn't follow along with the book, but that doesn't detract from anything.

Some people were disappointed with the movie's ending, I guess they were expecting an explosive ending and didn't follow what the movie was about. No Country For Old Men is almost like real life situations. But, what I got out of it is Good versus Evil. You got two characters names almost identical to each other.

Javier Bardem, the actor who portrays Anton Chigurh is the personification of true evil. A guy who seems to be anywhere and everywhere, a guy, or someone who resembles a guy, getting what he wants with no remorse.

Tommy Lee Jones, the actor who portrays Ed Tom Bell, the sheriff of a small town in Texas. The good guy getting old in a country that is changing right before his eyes and he can't believe the stories he reads. He knows about the evil that Chigurh holds and he knows something must happen for him to be stopped.

Anton and Ed Tom, sure do sound the same phonetically. To me they are somehow connected.

All the cast in the movie did a very great job, I do see some nominations for two of the actors in the movie, Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin.

So, go see the movie or read the book first and then go see the movie. If you want to see the movie first, go ahead, but then read the book because it will EXPLAIN EVERYTHING.
