NEW SHOCKING Teen Game that you DON'T know about!

SHOCKING TEEN GAMES
Most parents expect to deal with the usual teenager/parent conflicts – staying out past curfew, relationships, driving tickets maybe even smoking or underage drinking. However, these days the internet has opened up a whole new can of worms. Teens are able to access millions of web sites, some containing content we wish they would never have seen. Teens all over the world are now able to share thoughts, ideas and even games. Some of these games are very horrifying.
Rescently a new game has been uncovered. It has many names, “Space Monkey", “Float Away", “Dreams",“Fainting",“Pass Out
Game", “Black Out Game" and “Airplaning" are a few of them. This game has been a cause of deaths all over the United States. A 14 year old named Alyssa describes it as “ A game where you get down on your hands and knees and put your head down. You breathe really hard until you get really light headed. Somebody then puts their arm around your neck and flexes until you go limp. Everything goes black. You wake up a couple minutes later lightheaded and tingley. You feel really peaceful and calm".
Alyssas' mother had seen the girls playing this game but thought they were joking around because they were laughing and giggling. When she discovered that this was for real she forbid her daughter to be choked. Alyssa says that although she enjoys the “high" feeling she gets from playing this game she will only be the “choker" from now on.
When this game is played Oxygen Depletion provides a brief high or euphoric state. This happens because the actual ‘choking’ stops the flow of oxygen containing blood to the brain. The objective of this dangerous game is to get the child who is being choked to pass out. Once the choking pressure on the arteries has been released, blood flow to the brain resumes causing a "rush" as consciousness returns.
Some of the side effects to playing this game are permanent and cumulative death of large numbers of brain cells. Also the variation in blood pressure may also cause strokes, siezures, and retinal damage. Recently many children have died as a result.
Although drugs, such as marijuana, are addicting, they are costly. Children have discovered that this is not only a free way to get a buzz, but they have also found ways to achieve this high when they are alone by use of a ligature. If the child loses consciousness and there
is no one there to immediately release the pressure, he is unable to help himself. The child will suffer brain damage and death after only three minutes. Some of those who have died were alone for as little as 15 minutes before someone found them and it was already too late.
If you are a parent and you think your child has never heard of this game or tried it, you may want to guess again. Appearing on ‘Dr. Phil’ was Sarah, a grief stricken mother who had lost her 13 year old son to this game. He was playing this with his brother when they decided to use a rope as the device to make them pass out. Not realizing that his brother was dead, Samuel kept tugging the rope.
Sarah is currently working hard to get the word out about this rapidly growing game. It is so sad that lives are lost to something like this. We all must take part in the prevention process.
What can you do as a parent, brother, sister or teacher? First you need to ask questions. Remember that you are the adult. Don’t become frustrated if your child rolls their eyes at your inquiry. Discover who they are talking to on the internet. Using your computer, look up which sites they have visited in the past (If you are unsure how to do this, contact your local computer store). Don’t hesitate to tell them to leave their bedroom door ajar. Watch for additional clues – bruising, scratches, headaches, disorientation, etc. Although, if your child is playing this game they may not have any obvious signs. Most of all, always educate your child. Explain what happens when they experience oxygen depravation.
This game is no longer for teenagers either. Several children, as young as ten years of age have died as a result.
The following is a list of victims of “the Choking Game."

It's not...
new. It's been around as long as I can remember. I even knew someone in high school who used this tactic to get out of taking a test. He didn't need anyone's help either...
The real question I have, why do you think teens are more likely to paticipate as of lately? I don't think you can blame it on "knowing" due to the internet. The internet wasn't nearly as common when I heard of it.
I think the real problem is how the youth of today (myself included) has lost a sense of what matters. Before this gets any better I think it will get far worse...
I Don't know the solution
I don't feel that this has everything to do with the internet but the net does open a lot of doors to problems like this. Many teens have taken to chat rooms and web sites where "games" like this are discussed. Yes, my friend also had a version of this game that was played at sleepovers a long, long time ago.
I say this game is new because it has taken the life of over 100 kids. Parents are not aware of it, thus making it "new". Or maybe parents are not aware of the dangers of it, but THANKS TO THE INTERNET we are now able to research the possible consequences.
I also don't thikn that people realize how young these kids are that are playing this game.
I do agree, it will get worse before it gets better unless parents take the time to educate themselves.
The flip side of this ...
... is the situation, more common in wealthier, more "ambitious" households, of making sure each and every minute of a child's day is regimented. Stories like this make such people even less likely to give their children five minutes of unscheduled time than before. Kids, IMO, need space to discover things for themselves, but they also need a strong sense of "belonging" to the family and its rules to guide them through the troubles they see.
Here's a thought. Do you watch Sesame Street with your young'un, or plunk Toddles in front of the box, grateful for the hour of peace? Say you do the latter. Then, later on, start coming on like the proverbial ton of bricks when James is on the internet? "Now why the [deleted] are you interested? You weren't before! Must be something good on here. And you can just butt out, Mom." Instead, if the parent takes an interest in what the child is watching from early days, he/she might well accept your interest later as normal, even welcome. Especially if troublesome things are greeted with "That's unusual. Do you see anything wrong here?" rather than "Thou Shalt Not".
I don't believe I do agree...
what good is educating the parents? You are only freaking people out, why not educate the children to believe in themselves enough that they don't need as escape such as this?
Having nothing to do with the "current" fad freaking all the parents out- taking an active role in their lives before they turn 10 or so seems like a much more effective plan.
Hey, sometimes you as well as your child can learn a lot from Sesame Street or Dora.
Maybe Armageddon is indeed upon us ...
what good is educating the parents? You are only freaking people out
Man, that's a sad commentary. Especially since most parents are of an age when they were telling their parents to wise up ...
But then again, I'm a biologist. Takes a lot to freak me out ...
Freedom can come from knowledge...
but as can a whole load of other not so positive consequence. It is all about what people do with the knowledge? In the case of this one I really think it is probably better to have ignorant parents- in knowing I bet they have all made this issue worse.
It's kinda like sex class in elementary/middle school. Parents think their kid learns all they need to know, schools wont approach any subject that could possibly be taboo, so the kids actually end up more confused and getting important advice on all sexual aspects (especially safe sex...) from their friends. Can't say don't get pregnant and expect them to know what to do with anything besides abstinence if you don't tell them...
To have the parents educated on the existence doesn't seem to be improving the problem... only making it worse?
See what I could be saying? "informed" parent informs kid on exactly how to play this game, when instead they should be trying to prevent the cause.
Ignorant parents - ick!
I really think it is probably better to have ignorant parents- in knowing I bet they have all made this issue worse.
You would agree with Judith Harris that parents do not socialize children, other children do. I think this is a copout, an indictment of the ignorance of parents, a craven professional accepting what is happening as "right" rather than analyzing the phenomenon and its consequences. (Of course, maybe she's done this analysis in her later writings, which I haven't read.)
Parents think their kid learns all they need to know
I know some parents do this. My apologies. We never did. To the extent that we could, we understood what the schools were teaching and supplemented it. I can call myself a professional educator (once a college professor who chose a research career instead), so I hope I know a thing or two about this. I think that having parents that are truly engaged with their children (rather than taboo-enforcing parents or ones to whom everything that their children do "has happened to them") can only be a benefit.
But maybe your parents were of the "Thou Shalt" type - or experienced ostriches. Sigh.
But do you feel
When you say "educate the chldren" - do you honestly think that a ten year old is not going to be influenced by his classmates?
I, personally, am not freaked out by learning. I want to be up to date on political issues, parenting solutions and, most of all, what could be a potential harm to my child.
Did you have D.A.R.E in school? If you didn't DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) was this thing that a lot of MI schools did for a while, Basically the government thought teaching kids about drugs was going to help stop the problem. WRONG. It had a positive side, it did teach children about drugs they had never heard of but children are still going to do what their parents allow them to do. We must educate the parents so they know how to approach situations like "the choking game" without being frightened. We must educate the parents because it is their responsibility to educate the children, not the childrens responsibility to educate themselves.
ugh
I created a blog on this, maybe you can understand more what I am trying to say...
Sounds horrific
Do these young people believe that death by choking is only temporary? It sounds just so awful.
Maybe they should see Flatliners ...
... a 1990 movie on this topic. http://www.ram.org/ramblings/movies/flatliners.html
I shouldn't say this but it
I shouldn't say this but it seems the good old drugs are healthier. Near death experience is getting a nice state of euphoria. This could be accomplish safely using the most common drug on Earth - the alcohol. For other ways seek on Drugs Compare.
Games are as bad as drug
Games are as bad as drug these days. There should be clinics for such addiction since it gets our children to a stupidity level we can hardly imagine. Drugs kill you softer, but internet games, and not the online one, turns you into a fictional person.
That's a huge names list.
That's a huge names list. This game is older but because the availability of information on the net it can be easily found out by many children who don't know the dangers. Best that you could explain what chocking means. That would be the only solution. Also I believe that a balanced diet (including forward foods)could help the child increase his/hers chances of survival in the case that he/she knows about the game.
...
The list is 'impressive'... i have to admit i played this game too while i was in high school... but never thought this might be so dangerous..
Ada drug addiction treatment center
This is just a stupid,
This is just a stupid, deadly game kids play to get out from school or pretend they're sick. It's not something to kid about. As you presented, it's deadly.
suboxone detox
Horrible
I don`t like this idea at all. They should encourage the kids to go to school and learn, to socialize and be good they invest these games. They should make a contest with prizes or something for the kids. Prizes like electronic things or Radiohead tickets because they are very popular at the moment, or anything to get them out of the house and have some fun.
