Never Too Old To Learn The Guitar

Never Too Old To Learn The Guitar
I sarted learning to play the guitar at the age of 12. That was in
1968. I got my first guitar about a year later. My Mom
bought it from a couple of winos who needed a drink worse
than they needed to play music. As time went by I started to
get good enough, that I had a small following. It was a good 15
years before I got good enough to play in bars and at parties. Here I
was playing sometimes to as many as 50
people. I played the old hillbilly classics. I had never taken
the first lesson from a real teacher, but I had learned a lot
just from watching others play and pretty soon I could play
rock-n-roll and folk music. One day I layed my guitar down
and didn't pick it back up for a couple of weeks. the next time I
layed it down, I didn't touch it for a couple of months.
This went on until I really started to loose interest and would
lay it down for months and months. In 1977 I got a chance to
repair a guitar for the first time. It was an old Kay brand
accoustic that had been abused, badly. A good friend of mine had
found it at a yard sale for a couple of bucks. He
new that I had put some woodworking experience behind me in high
school and made good grades.
I agreed to give it a try. I reached out on faith and set in to taking
that thing apart, piece by piece. Well, if I do say so myself, I did a
fantastic job. This restored my faith in myself
and my friend sold that guitar for an undisclosed amount.
I started wanting to play again but I was rusty, to say the least. As
the years went by, I wanted to take some formal
guitar lessons but never could find the time or the money.
I knew I would need both at the same time but I was helping my
wife raise the kids. If I wasn't working, I was spending
time with the kids. I never seemed to have any time for me.
Then one day my kids started to grow up and move out
one by one until the house was empty and I seemed to have all
kinds of time and a little bit of money leftover. Wow! I
thought, I'm free.
One day I started to look around for someone to give me guitar
lessons. I looked around town for someone that was
near where I lived. I couldn't seem to connect to anyone
without one of us having to commute.
Then one day at a party, I heard this guy playing like every
guitar player I knew, all wrapped into one. When he finally
took a break, I asked him if he would have time to teach me
some stuff and I assured him that I wouldn't be too hard to teach. I
was willing to pay him but not being a rich man, I
asked him how much he would charge per session. That's when he
began to tell me about this website that teaches
guitar, bass guitar and drums. Not knowing much about this
internet thing at the time, I was very skeptical. He assured me that
it was a great program and that I should try it.
He told me that I couldn't find a better deal anywhere else.
