NASCAR Teamwork Wins July Holiday Race

NASCAR stockcar racing has evolved into one of the most regulated sports events existent. There is a 96 page rulebook governing the specifications of the construction and preparation of the race cars.
In the races prior to the July holiday week Firecracker 400 at Daytona International Speedway the Hendricks Motorsports teams of Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson

crew chiefs were suspended and fined for altering the surface area of their team's Chevy race cars to create more aerodynamic "downforce" so the cars handle better. Both crew chiefs were suspended and fined $100,000.
In another instance, Dale Earnhardt's (Dale Earnhardt Incorporated crew chief was also suspended and fined for allowing the wing that is mounted on the race car's trunk brackets to allow an angle 2 degrees more than the NASCAR specifications allow.
