my son- the little punk rocker

my son is only 22 months old, but already he's showing a preference for one type of music, thanks to my husband. yep, you guessed it, it has to be punk rock. if i turn anything else on, he shuts the stereo off on me. i'm not sure this is healthy for him, but my husband insists it is. i'm sure that's just because that's his favorite too. i'm okay with some of the stuff he listens to, like MXPX. but if he starts listening to things like social distortion, i'm gonna have a heart attack! he also likes anything sung by kids, i think that's gonna be the only kind of music that goes in our cd player from now on.

First, that's badass. Second, there's no such thing as "punk rock devil hands!" What the hell. THOSE ARE METAL DEVIL HANDS. Punk Rock isn't about worshipping the fucking devil, it's about something social! Even the founders of "Emo" Blink-182 still have something social to say and even the sappiest of love songs from their first CD was social. God, go join the right group you fucking poser.

My kids are the same way. My son a little more than my daughter, although she'll catch up. We listen to a little punk, but ours is mostly industrial, electronic, and other alt types of music. We honestly do listen to EVERY kind of music, and I am likely to switch from a Tool cd to bluegrass music, so at least they are getting a really wide variety and they can decide what they like. My son is really fond of At the Drive-In and Assemblage 23. My daughter tends to like A Perfect Circle.

A helpful hint- kids go nuts for Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. It's fun for the kids, it's tolerable for adults, and the lyrics are clean enough for the little ones. Usually.
