My son is fat!
Say good night Shame Boy. Good-bye flab food. I just got the report from my son's pediatrician that he is fat and runs a number of health risks. I knew that he'd added some unnecessary weight in the last couple of years but apparently this is bad. With childhood Diabetes on the rise and other little nagging problems his weight became a prime issue. Not that I haven't ancouraged him to get his ass off the couch and do something!
He's eleven years old and loves Cartoon Network, his Game Boy, and eating anything that isn't remotely organic. His little brother, age 6, is thin and energetic and loves to run all day. He gets tired of trying to get the older boy to go outside. So am I.
We bought him a bike that he outgrew before he learned how to ride. We bought him a football and soccerball which gather dust. I turn off the TV constantly and hide the Game Boy and he still sits around like a bump on the log. Anything said by his parents drifts from one ear and out the other. Thankfully he takes his doctor serious.
Last night, after the appointment, he asked if he could play outside and asked me to come out as well. We played all kinds of goofy crap, ran around the yard, relays, and threw a ball or two. When we finished he smiled and asked what we were doing tomorrow. I think his weight problem well be solved by the end of summer, and I might lose a few pounds as well.
